US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the pilots of a United States Army Apache helicopter gunship that went down near the Strait of Hormuz "are fine."
Speaking on the runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport before returning to Washington, D.C., Trump said there was "nobody injured," adding that the US will release an incident report later on Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear whether the Apache was shot down by Iranian fire, experienced mechanical failure, or encountered some other problem. The New York Times reported earlier on Tuesday, citing two people briefed on the incident.
According to the NYT, Apache helicopters, as well as fighter jets and drones, have been used by US Central Command (CENTCOM) as part of US efforts to break Iran's blockade on the Hormuz.

We've defeated their military, so it couldn't have been shot down by Iranian fire.
Helicopters break.
That's it. The helicopter broke in mid-flight near the Strait of Hormuz.
One wonders why the writer at The Jerusalem Post would even suggest it could have been shot down by Iranian fire.
Happened yesterday... still waiting to hear if it was mechanical failure or not.
Oh, it was mechanical failure.
CENTCOM doesn’t hesitate to report mechanical failures long.
The US government needs to come clean ASAP:
<><>as to whether Iran is shooting at US servicemen
<><>and whether enemy fire shot down the Apache.
And to clarify whether the shooting is due to Israel’s selfish decision to start
bombing Iran again after Trump told us he “asked” Netanyahu to hold off.
Just curious. If Mexico started lobbing missiles into the US, do you think Trump would not retaliate based on another world leader asking us to “hold off”
Apples and oranges.....no similarities whatsoever.
Quite the deflection. Not working with me.
Too bad.
“ clarify whether the shooting is due to Israel’s selfish decision”
lol. So Israel responding in kind to having 30 missiles lobbed at Israel is “selfish”.
You’re past parody.
If that other leader was president of the country that was keeping us on the map, I'm not sure he'd have a choice.
DJT: I’m really mad now so you better get back to the table and make a deal or I shall taunt you a second time.
Hand over the centrifuges and enriched uranium or we’ll hand your money over to the Israelis to buy weapons off us.
Gravity is a B#TCH.
I was at a gathering early Sunday morning. We had bought big jugs of Dunkin coffee. An elderly man asked me how do you get the coffee out of these big containers sitting in front of him on the table.
I looked at him to make sure he was not pulling my leg.
I replied GRAVITY.
He shook his head and knew what a silly question he had just asked.
Exactly. Also all these posters automatically assuming Iran shot the helicopter (which could be true) have never been in a combat helicopter.
I went down in the back of a Blackhawk that just broke. Hard landing but we were all fine. Pilots just said “helicopters break” as the explanation.
We’ll see what really happens, but mechanical failure is the cause of 75%+ of all helo crashes even in combat.
