The Republicans Are Saps and Saps Deserve to Lose

While the Democrats run roughshod over tradition and even rules and laws, the Republicans go for proper procedure. We see it in sports when some players simply quit on their teams. The Republicans are Boy Scouts of old, while the Democrats are Hell’s Angels. It’s pathetic to see the Managed Decline Wing of the Republican Party think that it has some opening. Mike Pence has resurfaced.

Think Habeas Corpus and Lincoln. Thune can make the call on the SAVE Act. Katrina-W took the hit and turned the other cheek when it was totally on the locals and the rats again didn't let the crisis go to waste. Spencer Pratt's only hope is for the feds to get involved with limited hope. If they get away with it they will continue to cheat legally because our leaders won't keep the genie in the bottle.

There will be another SCOTUS battle coming up before Trump’s term ends, maybe two. Time for you all to rethink your support for Linda who has no power to start wars. Purists remind me of Massie/Rand.

Good article. I personally think the Republican Party should officially change its name to the Stupid Party.

Truth in advertising, and all that.

Sometimes 'purists' are just grandstanders looking for attention - and putting everyone else at risk while they seek it.

The Republicans are going to wind up where the Tories in Britain are.

Yep.

Except their loss is our loss.

I believe that before this is over Trump will have to issue an emergency order and take charge of the election system. The Republicans are obviously either not up to the job or in on the gift themselves.

Spencer Pratt's only hope is for the feds to get involved with limited hope.

Spencer Pratt is standing around dumbstruck as Nithya Raman reaches out to her NGO friends to harvest ballots from every homeless shelter on Skid Row.

California has a legal mechanism to ensure a Republican never wins because no mater how good the GOP candidate did on Election Day, Democrats have a full month to stuff the ballot boxes with however many votes they need to clinch victory.

Saddam Hussein would've been proud.

I would like to believe that, but please explain to me why even a simple symbolic censure of Omar is out of reach? Starting to smell like an insiders club wherein the government is no longer FOR the people.

People don’t want less of Trump but wish that the president would be more Rambo and less nice.

That's in fact my main beef with Trump. Whether it's our domestic enemy Democrats or foreign adversaries, he needs to play hardball. The Insurrection Act gave him a perfect opportunity to start jailing Democrats and shutdown the "sanctuary city" bullcrap once and for all but he dropped the ball. The talk about continued "negotiations" with the IRGC has become a farce.

And given that, Trump is still by far far the only major Republican who fights.

This is a bit of an overstatement. The biggest problem the Republicans have right now is their margins are so small that even a very small percentage of senators or members of Congress can stall legislation. It is unfair to blame the vast majority of elected Republicans who vote the right way for the actions of a few squishes who don't.

Democrats had the same problem with Manchin and Sinema, and now to a certain extent with Fetterman.

It's also worth remembering that Republicans haven't always been patsies. It was Republicans, not the Democrats, who eliminated the judicial filibuster for higher level judges that enabled Republicans to push through their last few Supreme Court nominees. And Republicans who rammed through the BBB despite literally unanimous Democrat opposition in both the House and the Senate.

The political reality is you just can't win them all.

**I personally think the Republican Party should officially change its name to the Stupid Party.**
There’s still hope with Trump being around for a couple more years. Who’s willing to step up and be the bad guy?

**How often have you seen on X some grandstanding representative write, “I today will introduce a bill for….” When one is in the opposition and out of real power, he can introduce any and every bill that comes to mind.**
Too often. Just think of the power the 51st republican senator will have with a dem in the WH. It would be a Lisa Murkowski. She’s up in ‘28. There are others just like her that we don’t know of. Others we do know.

Yep. Except that it will be even worse here. In the UK many parties vie for seats in Parliament. And so coalitions form.

But here there are only two real parties. They have a lock on elections - money means everything. So if the Republicans slide into obscurity, only the radical Democrats will remain.

(Sorry for the pessimism. Especially on a nice, sunny Sunday.)

“believe that before this is over Trump will have to issue an emergency order and take charge of the election system.”

Let’s hope it does not come to that since it would ignite a massive Constitutional crisis that could cripple the country.

In the modern world of American politics, many do not understand the importance of prioritizing, or even how to prioritize, especially progressives.

The vote in the House was 214 to 213 against censuring Omar.

Four Republicans joined the Democrats to support the motion to stop the censure. They are Reps. Mike Flood of Nebraska, Jeff Hurd of Colorado, Tom McClintock of California and Cory Mills of Florida.
