From your weight and facial expressions to your destination, cars collect a startling amount of data about you. Some of it may even raise your insurance costs. But you can take some simple steps to limit what they know about you.
...
Modern cars are computers on wheels, and giant corporations are using them to suck up intimate details about your life and make more money. If you think driving today is a chance for solitude and independence, think again. And it looks like it's about to get a lot worse.

Now do your TV...
How many of you have connected your phone to the Bluetooth accessory of your car?
Depends on what you drive
Do TV’s have cameras yet?
“A federal law is about to increase the amount of data your car can gather about you. It will soon require American car companies to install infrared biometric cameras and other systems to scan your body language, track your eyes or other aspects of your behavoiur to detect whether you’re too drunk or tired to drive. But it will also open up a whole new trove of data about your health and your habits.”
Something I saw on a similar post was “emotion monitoring”
WTH?
If it thinks your pissed off the car won’t start?
My wife and I are sticking with our 20 plus year old vehicles. No screens, just cassette and CD players. Hand cranked windows in mine too.
I have a 70’s model Impala I’m going to try to keep running. Expensive, but might be worth it.
Who knows, they may not provide registration on the old vehicles anymore in a few years.
Yeah... about large segments of the population with poor impulse control.
Drive to a fast food restaurant or a Waffle House restaurant after a certain hour at night and your car will automatically limit acceleration and top speed until the next morning.
Android Auto!
My 2012. Chrysler tells me tire pressure.and oh yes mileage.i even have trouble with the disk player.
I wonder what would happen if someone put electrical tape over all the cameras...
I bet the car would refuse to start, might even alert the police.
“or a Waffle House”
I think you mean Denny’s.
From the article:
Kia’s privacy policy, for example, suggests the company may even collect details about your “sex life” and general health.
I feel lucky if my 26 yr old clunker shows how much fuel is left.
I’m sure disabling the sensors would have some effect on the performance of the car eventually.
In America, Television watches you.
Thanks

I was considering buying a new Tacoma last year until I found out they stopped making the V6 naturally aspirated engines. They are only available in 4 cylinder or 4 cylinder turbos. I actually considered buying a 2015 Double cab long bed with a V6 4.0 liter. Which is the same exact truck I am driving with a few other interior features. Like a bigger touch screen. Also, a bigger reverse camera screen. Which a key feature with a long pick up.
I do not want any cars that turn the engine off when you stop. Or the self driving features or connectivity. My wife's CRV you can turn off the stop engine "feature". However, she does like the "lane assist". She credits it with saving her from a head on collision after a long drive when she was very tired. It does have a small 1.5 liter turbo charged engine though. The problem with ALL these small turbos is that the engine is not going to last as long as a regular 2.2 or 2.4 cylinder four cylinder. Volvo(240) and Toyota made these small 2.4 liter engines that lasted forever. There are Volvos with over a million miles on those engine. There are 1980s Toyota Hilux 2.4 liter four cylinder engines all around the world. Especially in places like Afghanistan. Where they are the official vehicle of the Taliban. Now, IF that is not an endorsement, I don't know what is!
