The Republican-led South Carolina state Senate rejected a measure Tuesday to take up a redraw of the state’s congressional map despite pressure from President Donald Trump.
A resolution that would have extended the state’s legislative session, set to end this week, to tackle redistricting fell short of the two-thirds support needed, with five Republicans voting against it.
The vote shuts the door, at least for now, on Republican plans to carve up the state’s lone majority-Black district, represented by longtime Democratic Rep. James Clyburn, before the midterm elections. South Carolina’s primaries are set for June 9.

Time for primaries
No the hill to die on for 1 single Democrat seat, and a ‘symbolic’ one at that.
You are correct. Allow Clyburn to continue to be the Dems kingmaker for 2028. Therein lies SC’s genius.
Alex Murdaugh lived in the 6th district. As a well known lawyer with connections he would have been a viable candidate to replace Clyburn. I regret that I will never get the chance to vote for him. He would have brough the killer instinct lacking in the country club Republicans in Columbia.
Meanwhile in California, the left is freaking out so much about Spencer Pratt’s rising poll numbers, they are thinking about doing away with the jungle primary.

“........But this year, a large gubernatorial field with no front-runner has led to chronic and near-existential fears among the state’s now-dominant Democrats that the top-two system could place two MAGA Republicans in the general election despite a pro-Democratic national wave. We won’t know whether that nightmare scenario will actually unfold until after June 3, when voting in California’s all-mail-ballot contest ends. “
And wow! What a slanted article!!!
I agree with this, but it might have been an easy pickup.
I don’t think the GOP should get cocky and start to change the maps in every state. In states where the map is clearly drawn for racist purposes and in which there is written or audio evidence that Democrats deliberately drew it that way then yes. But to go overboard invites trouble. (Ask the Virginia Dems). I don’t know the history of Clyburn’s district or how it came into being.
Clyburn will pass on at some point in the near future. He is 85. The GOP can redraw districts then.
Typical.
Let him die first. No elder abuse.
Oh that is so cute how they think this “shuts the door”.
It doesn’t. It opens the door to lawsuits based on the end of racial gerrymandering. It is the opposite of what the status quo used to be. Whereas states used to be sued for failing to have a district that was racially gerrymander, now they’ll be sued for having ones that do. See you back in session chumps by ordering a court.
Looks like more rinos need primaried
Their antics? Setting fires inside the Capitol + attacking law enforcement.
Tennessee just sent a clear message: Political terrorism will NOT be tolerated.
Republicans nationwide — this is how you wield power. No more weakness.
No the hill to die on for 1 single Democrat seat, and a ‘symbolic’ one at that.

Actually, it ensures that the remaining seats will remain red. All the liberal strongholds are combined into the black district.
I guess this will be their last time they are elected. Hope it was worth it.
Vote these RINO’s out.
SC Repukes are the worst.
5 weak, compromised losers. Primary all of these pathetic weaklings. Enough already.
So they are about to knowingly hold an illegal election, and get away with it. Shouldn’t the entire states results be thrown out and not counted ?
