The Singapore-based operator of the ship that crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing it to collapse and killing six people, has been indicted along with a key employee, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.
The indictment names Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., based in Singapore, and Synergy Maritime Pte Ltd., based in Chennai, India. Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair, 47, an Indian national who was technical superintendent for the Dali container ship, was also charged.
The Dali crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024, killing six construction workers who had been filling potholes.
The companies and Nair are charged with conspiracy, willfully failing to immediately inform the U.S. Coast Guard of a known hazardous condition, obstruction of an agency proceeding, and false statements.
An FBI investigation into the crash focused on the vessel’s operations and whether the crew knew of critical systems issues before leaving port.
The National Transportation Safety Board found last year that two electrical blackouts — one caused by a loose wire aboard the Dali and another by problems with a fuel pump — disabled the controls of the huge cargo ship before it crashed into the bridge.
The Dali was leaving Baltimore bound for Sri Lanka when its steering failed because of the power loss. The ship crashed into a supporting column of the bridge at about 1:30 a.m.

The entire crew needs to be thrown in prison for murder. They murdered 6 of Baltimore’s beloved illegal alien “neighbors”. The community’s liberals are still grieving.
All aboard the Failboat.
Hey, I think I see my Amazon shipment!
lol

Yes, the ship operator should be investigated and prosecuted. But that should not let the city and state administration off the hook for their complete mismanagement of the aftermath. Its a textbook example of Government Screw Up 101.
ANOTHER “OUT OF TOWNER” THAT CANNOT DRIVE WELL IN THE USA???
One loose wire? What kind of POS boat and crew that can’t handle a loose wire?
Not sure about the port of Baltimore but aren’t ports required to have a local pilot to get these massive ships in and out of port?
US ports generally require local harbor pilots to guide foreign-flagged and large ocean-going vessels in and out of port.
Over 95% of large, foreign-flagged ships entering U.S. waterways use licensed pilots to navigate hazardous bays, rivers, and crowded ports.
It’s Compulsory by Law: State and federal regulations mandate US pilots for foreign vessels over certain tonnages (often >100 tons).
Has it been confirmed that it was a harbor pilot at the helm?
???? Good question. Who was at the helm?
A. A harbor pilot was at the helm.
or
B. The harbor pilot turned over the controls to the crew before clearing the bridge.
Right......something crucial like that would have been reported for sure.
"Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair, 47, an Indian national who was technical superintendent for the Dali container ship"
The pilot was not at the helm according to the NTRSB report.
He is not required to be at the Helm. He advises the ship’s captain of speed and heading to be steered. OBTW there were two pilots on the bridge at the time of collision. One was under instruction.
Most probably an able-bodied seaman of Indian nationality.
For those not familiar, this bridge was the primary connection between DC and the northeast. There are other routes, fortunately, like 895 or going way around Baltimore on 495, but losing it was a pretty big deal.
