This video provides an immersive tour of Shenzhen, showcasing the rapid transformation and high-tech integration that makes it one of the most advanced cities in the world.
Key Highlights of Shenzhen's Tech Scene:
Futuristic Payments & Logistics: The host demonstrates palm payments at a local convenience store (1:14) and experiences drone delivery for tea, which was significantly faster and more efficient than traditional methods (1:40 - 3:18). Autonomous Transportation: The video captures the experience of riding in a driverless taxi (5:21), observing how it handles complex traffic, turns, and obstacle avoidance (5:21 - 7:37). Domestic Innovation: The host explores the automotive landscape, featuring unique Chinese-market Audi vehicles (3:44) and the flagship Xiaomi automotive store, highlighting the shift from phone manufacturing to high-performance electric vehicles (8:02 - 10:43). Robotics in Daily Life: Robotics are integrated into various aspects of the city, including restaurants where food is served via UFO-like pods on magnetic tracks (10:44 - 11:34), automated coffee machines (13:08), and advanced displays at the 27th Hi-Tech Fair (15:51 - 18:20). Hospitality: The host stays at the Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen, providing a glimpse into the luxury and modern amenities available in the CBD area (4:38).
The video concludes by reflecting on the city's dramatic "glow up" from a fishing village 40 years ago to a global tech hub, suggesting that the rate of change is so rapid that the city will likely look completely different upon a return visit (22:12).

When I worked in Yunnan Province in late ‘76 to early ‘77, it was like going back 2,000 years. Men still towed barges up the Yangtze River pulling on tow ropes.
This represents what our schools are costing us.
China has made staggering technological progress in a very short time.
All created under an iron fist.
Sounds ridiculous, like a tech expo. None of the things mentioned are actually useful. When tech is useful and does things it is real tech. When it looks like Disneyland, it’s just Disneyland.
And I love tech and am looking forward to Optimus and self driving (when I WANT to use it).
Amazing! This is what America used to be!
BTW, where are the drugged out “homeless”?
Wrong!
Every single one of the technologies shown in the video are very useful.
Did you even watch the video at all?
“BTW, where are the drugged out “homeless”?”
In LA?
China has made staggering technological progress in a very short time.
So did Japan, after Commodore Perry went there.
Looks completely soulless to me.
Most Chinese people are pretty happy.
Japan’s real progress came after WW Eleven. ;-D
America CAN’T Compete with China’s High-Tech Future!
They can keep it.
So you’re posting straight out Chicom propaganda.
It is ridiculous. It’s propaganda.
It’s no secret the CCP has been paying influencers to come to China and give positive reports.
Very interesting video. The CCP is indeed full-steam ahead on its “Brave New World” hyper-materialist and societal-control vision for China.
Just FYI - her Premier room at Mandarin Oriental Hotel running about $560/night at present.
I went to Shenzhen China, where this video was made in early 1990, when the economic "chill" after Tiananmen massacre was still evident.
Shenzhen had already started to develop, with HK investor/manufacturer money, but it was still clearly focused around the one Main Street, extending directly from the border train station, with only ramshackle buildings on the side streets.
The pace of change, development, technology and social-manipulation there has been intense. Nothing like it before in history. If/when China gets into human DNA manipulation and hybrid humans/robots/animals, you'll see them walking the streets of Shenzhen first I imagine.
