Kaiser Permanente nurses are protesting the healthcare giant’s plan to terminate at least one nurse who is caught in a monthslong delay renewing her immigration work authorization.
The nurse was previously covered by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which grants temporary protections and work permits to immigrants who came to the country as children without legal status. But DACA-protected people, often called “dreamers,” are facing long renewal delays that are putting recipients’ jobs at risk.
The nurse, who was granted anonymity under Hearst’s ethics policy because she fears being deported, filed her DACA renewal paperwork in December 2025 and is still waiting for it to be processed five months later. The Trump administration told the Associated Press last week that it is “more thoroughly screening” DACA recipients, which immigration advocates say could be grounds for the administration deporting the longtime U.S. residents.
In March, Kaiser placed the San Francisco Medical Center operating room nurse on a 30-day unpaid administrative leave, and she expects to be terminated after the leave expires on Thursday.

“Dreamers” all.
If only there was an actual law passed by Congress that we could refer to...
Cross your ‘t’s... Dot your ‘i’s... And get in your paperwork delivered on time like everybody else does.
These are the simple rules when dealing with a bureaucracy. No matter where you live in this world you need to follow the rules and if you do, it typically works out.
Don’t do these things, lie, deceive, delay, etc... And bad things happen. Just follow the instructions and if you meet the criteria you will be accepted... Don’t meet the criteria... You will be rejected.
But don’t tell us the ‘dog ate your homework’. That is an unacceptable excuse.
What part of “temporary” don’t they get?
just because they were once afforded a way to stay here while illegal, doesn’t mean they haven’t abused the system or done things that may need investigation and possibly not renewing previous status.
one helping hand doesn’t mean continual helping hands for life, of illegals, or even any able bodied Citizens.
Although USCIS didn’t shutdown it is possible that a delay in processing occurred:
“Processing times may slow down if USCIS requires information from other agencies that are shut down, such as the Department of Labor (DOL) for labor certifications.”
She needs to go.
The foreign nurses I’ve had were so deficient in English that they were dangerous. They couldn’t understand me (or my mother when she was ill), or speak intelligibly.
DACA must be terminated. If an illegal minor was brought here by illegal parents more than 10 (15? 20?) years ago, all involved have had time to apply for and acquire USA citizenship. The lack of action on their part does not create a responsibility on my part.
Hit the road, Juan !!
Her TPS was the bribe 💩 gave her in return for mercenary activity.
I have a dream
How about you?
Was she dancing during COVID?
It’s not just the nurses.
And it’s not just the accents.
I’m really wondering how many are here on faked credentials.
Fire her NOW and hire an American.
Not enough American nurses, stop discriminating against them at the school level and start admitting more Americans.
This has to end now and better we endure the growing pains now than to continue and let this “disease” get worse.
“I’m really wondering how many are here on faked credentials.”
Maybe the University of American Samoa ... like Saul Goodman?
It is a safe bet if they got their nursing credentials outside the US they are fake.
No. It’s not.
I’m not saying she shouldn’t go back - she should.
Kaiser nurses go through a months long orientation program and
their credentials are vetted.
Like I said, it’s not just the nurses.
I would have a damn good look at the MDs, too, including the specialists.
If Daddy cheated the system to get Junior into Harvard, should Junior get to stay at Harvard?
LMAO haha, hoohoh you are hilarious.
A little background, my wife has been an RN for decades... ya keep deluding yourself, while I would not say ALL I am very comfortable saying most are fake / woefully under-trained..
Even funnier though, is you somehow thing validating credentials means anything.
