Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) is on track to become the strongest party in an eastern state election in September, a poll showed on Thursday, raising the prospect of the far-right party leading a regional government for the first time.
The infratest dimap survey showed support for the AfD climbing to 41% in the state of Saxony Anhalt, up 2 points from the last poll, and well ahead of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservative CDU at 26%. The Social Democrats, Merz's junior partners in the federal coalition, trailed at 7%.
Although support for the AfD has long been strongest in former Communist eastern states, disillusionment with the coalition is widespread just one year after Merz took office and the party is roughly level with the CDU in national polls.
Other parties have said they will not cooperate with the AfD, which wants tough migrant policies and closer ties with Russia, but they are struggling to challenge it, especially as an energy shock from the Iran war threatens a fragile recovery in Europe's biggest economy.
With the Left party at 12% and Greens and populist BSW at 4%, respectively, below the threshold needed to enter the state parliament, the poll points to complicated coalition-building after the September 6 vote if the AfD is to be kept out of government.

To quote Mr. Burns…..”EXCELLENT”
🇩🇪👍
😉
Taking the cue from what happened in the UK.
Reuters is embarrassed to give attribution to their “ far-right “ screed.
Better to hide behind the Reuters broad tent.

Germany is moving to a post-EU status again. Sick to death of milquetoast, pencil necked internationalist socialist bureaucrat-tyrants. Lots of goof info in this video.
This is the clear point. The elite atop the German uniparty are so 'dedicated' to democracy that they want to keep representatives of a large portion of the electorate "out of government."
Given the recent Reform vote in the UK and Romania toppling its EU-approved head of only eight months, it surely seems the German elite are working overtime to keep citizens from actually participating in their own governance. Note the EC head is a German.....
Europe Far Right = Anyone Who Is Opposed The Insane EU Policies.
Reuters is the root of evil in the world.
“Reuters is the root of evil in the world.”
You don’t know what evil is.
Weird huh?
An AfD victory in Germany would be the best thing to happen in European politics in decades. Imagine the possibilities with authentic German nationalists Alice Weidel or Tino Chrupalla taking the place of the spineless castrato Eurocrat Friedrich Mertz.
In Western Europe, anything to the right of Marx and Lenin is “far right”.
In Europe, the Left-Right spectrum is more about internationalism vs. nationalism than about socialism vs. capitalism. Since Third World immigration is an existential threat to European sovereignty and culture in a way that a welfare state is not, I’m not sure they’re wrong about their priorities.
Internationalism vs. nationalism today is the only issue that matters.
A lot of people on this site condemn European nationalist movements and parties like National Rally, AfD, Fidesz, etc (i.e. the ones who want to do something about the Third World invasion) because they aren’t committed to libertarian economics. That’s like worrying about the color of your window curtains when your house is on fire.
Excellent comment 👍🏻😀
I get the impression that some of the “conservatives” who bash AfD etc for their lack of devotion to libertarian economics do so as an excuse rather than a reason, i.e. it’s a way to oppose a nationalist party without parroting verbatim politically correct, left-wing talking points. ariffs.
I think it could also be due to the fact that in mainland Europe, conservatives have, unless I‘m very wrong, always been less libertarian on economic issues than Conservatives in the USA, and to some extent in Britain, always have been.
If you are not that much threatened by an invader, as the Anglo-Saxon nations were, you don’t need to work that much for the national social cohesion. In mainland Europe, when the invaders came, everyone, whether rich or poor, had to fight.
You buy the loyalty of the poor by having a strong nation-state provide for them, as the forefathers of the rich of today spent money on hospitals, poor-houses etc. and provided for the weaker elements in society.
