Major rail disruption expected in southern England until end of day

Major disruption is expected on some rail services in southern England until the end of the day after an earlier radio fault, Network Rail has said.

South Western Railway, CrossCountry, Southern, Gatwick Express, the London Overground and Thameslink all saw cancellations and delays on Thursday morning after the issue affected communications between trains and signallers.

National Rail said the problem had been reported at 08:53 BST and resolved by 11:00, with services starting to return to normal.

But it warned: "Some services may still be delayed by up to 90 minutes or cancelled whilst service recovers. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day."

London Overground services are no longer affected by the disruption, it added.

Passengers were urged to check before travelling and advised of alternative routes on which their tickets would be valid.

South Western Railway - which had warned of delays of more than an hour, cancellations and alterations across its network earlier in the day - said "significant" disruption would continue as it worked to get services back to normal.

It warned trains could be held in stations as well as being delayed or cancelled, and timetables and platform information could be changed at short notice.

---- "...after an earlier radio fault."

Weakest link in a chain..... The rest of the too-long story is a People magazine article.

“Major disruption is expected on some rail services in southern England “

Hmmm.. Reminds me of AZ in 22 when that thieving bitch Hobbs sabotaged the voting machines in key Republican areas.

The timing of this unplanned rail outage is interesting.

Today is also the day the UK is having local elections in which the Labor party is expected to get clobbered.

I wonder if this rail outage is going to have any affect on turnout?

An excellent parallel and keen observation. How about that nonexistent water problem in Atlanta? Lots of examples, even across the pond as "canceled" Romanian election installed a chap whose government is now collapsed after only eight months. Seems like the "liberals" worldwide are intent on ruling us, even when we reject their rule. Britain's elections, and then Germany's, will be most interesting.

If England is like Japan, urban and suburban areas are highly reliant on public transportation. Rural areas, not so much since most people drive.

They don't need to suppress the rural vote as they have written it off anyway.

Getting closer to what Ayn Rand predicted.
