The attorney general’s office has ruled against Southwick’s adoption of a temporary moratorium on building large-scale solar arrays and battery energy storage systems in town, which means companies can now apply for a permit to install those systems.
“If a company puts in an application, we’d have to move forward through our current process and hear it within 60 days,” said Town Planner Alvin Allen about the ruling.
The Southwick Planning Board began discussing the idea of having a zoning bylaw drafted to place a moratorium on them in late December. Those discussions came after Blandford and Westfield residents successfully prevented an attempt by a company to install a battery energy storage systems on Medeiros Way in April 2025, following much opposition to these renewable energy systems.

I had no idea a state’s Attorney General can make findings of law? I thought that’s the courts function, from local magistrate to to state supreme courts?
