MPs vote against Starmer facing parliamentary inquiry over Mandelson vetting

Summary
MPs vote 335 to 223 against a Tory-led motion calling for a parliamentary investigation into claims Keir Starmer misled MPs about Lord Mandelson's appointment as US ambassador

During the lengthy debate, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch says it's "very obvious" Starmer told the Commons things that were "not correct"

After the result, No 10 accuses the Conservatives of a "desperate political stunt" the week before key elections in Scotland, Wales and England

The government's won the vote but there's still a lot disgruntlement, writes our correspondent

The debate came as Starmer's former chief of staff Morgan McSweeney told MPs he made a "serious mistake" in advising the PM to appoint Mandelson -- but that he didn't ask for vetting to be "cleared at all costs"

Ex-Foreign Office chief Philip Barton also gave evidence, saying he was "worried" Mandelson's links to Epstein "could be a problem"

They know they’re going down and will be out of power, probably for years, and because of their intercoursing the country during this recent renaissance, they’ve destroyed any trust anyone had in them. So they’ll hang on like grim death. It appears to be heading for an historic beatdown, and emergence of two formerly minority parties, one of which is pretty new.

Years ago, in open thread here on FR, I predicted the outright majority for the Tories when Cameron made his last run. A British FReeper (who later got banned, dunno why, I kinda liked him) said it was impossible, but that Cameron would get first shot at forming a gov’t.

After doing that, Cameron didn’t want to implement Brexit (which passed at or around that time) and pro-EU ‘holes among the Tories kept undermining Brexit until the British voters who had supported them got tired of their BS. So it’s at least possible that we’re watching the sun go down on both of those parties.

From what I understand, the Tories are polling in 4th place right now.

Fancy using the term intecoursing today. :-)

As the members of Parliament were debating whether Keir Starmer would face an inquiry or not there was a trial taking place in Old Bailey where three young Ukrainian “models” were on trial for setting fires at Starmer’s old properties.

There is some uncertainty whether there is a media ban (ie no news allowed to avoid contempt of court) or if the media has decided by themselves not to cover this trial.

A youtoube video by Katie Hopkins may explain why this would be the case:

(It is well worth the few minutes.....)

Well that is probably a good thing. Conservative Vote splitting could put in a nightmare Labour/Green coalition. Not that we would see much of a difference if that happened.
