British control of the Falkland Islands, which the United States helped the Brits reconquer in the 1982 Falklands War, now seems to be at risk. There are news reports that the Trump administration’s list of ways to punish recalcitrant NATO allies includes siding with Argentina over control of the Falklands.
London’s Express reported that
Donald Trump’s Pentagon officials are exploring ways the United States can punish NATO countries for failing to support the Iran war, including by reportedly reviewing Britain’s claim to the Falkland Islands. . . . An option included in the message is to consider reassessing US diplomatic support for European “imperial possessions”, such as the Falkland Islands. The archipelago in the South Atlantic is a self-governing British Overseas Territory which has long been claimed by Argentina.
In April 1982, Argentina invaded the islands and quickly took control. But in a ten-week war, the U.K. won them back, sending a naval task force that performed an amphibious assault. In June 1982, Argentine forces surrendered. The British had full American support in this war, which included the U.S. providing missiles, fuel, and intelligence to the Royal Navy.

The UK is finding out that committing a craven betrayal makes you paranoid about retribution.
Why does the UK want it so bad?
Argentina does not, and has never had, a claim to these islands. Britain and Spain exchanged control over them way back when, but Argentina did not even exist. In addition, they were not inhabited islands - there were no "native Argentines" nor anyone else there that an imperial power took possession of that had any prior inhabitants.
This entire thing is folklore made up by various Argentine leaders to stir up patriotism - it is disappointing the current leadership still promotes these falsehoods to its population.
Everything you said is true. Most people don’t seem to know this.
It’s a bit remote but they do need another Epstein Island for whoever has taken over Epstein’s pedophilia blackmail racket.
The military dictators promoting this nonsense to the population sort of makes sense (not in a moral way, but given the way propaganda allows them to cling to power, it was logical for them to do it), but the democratically elected leaders of a free Argentina continuing to propagate this fiction to their population for decades on end just doesn’t make sense.
In case they need it as an airbase to restrict shipping around Cape Horn.
Even if it's not British ships, it's The Crown's financing of the shipment, and Lloyds underwriting the insurance for it.
I think it is in our best interest to stay neutral if this thing flares up again.
All Argentines have been hearing it so long that they believe it. Also, they want payback for losing the last war.
Right now, I don’t mind if it makes the current British government uncomfortable. They have been stabbing us in the back for years now along with Canada, that anything to piss them off is OK with me.

Perhaps what's best here is a newly independent "Republic of Falk Land".
Perhaps it will make the boneheads in London nervous enough to get off their fat and lazy arses and start defending (what’s left of) their once-glorious empire.
This was one of those situations where the Queen did intervene herself to gain US support by extending an invitation to President Reagan. But of course she was much more respected than the current monarch and our relationship with Britain in general was also much stronger. I had posted a link to a video documentary which included this but unfortunately that video has been moved to “private” and I cannot find another posting.
here’s an article discussing that: https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-10630729/How-Ronald-Reagans-1982-Windsor-ride-Queen-sealed-backing-Falklands-war.html
I didn’t know that. Thanks.
No More Kings.
We’ve commented on this before on other threads, but the Falklands is probably the most British remaining part of Britain.
His strongly worded letter will strike fear in Argentine hearts!
If Argentina wants them, they can take them. Argentina is ascending and the UK is a sad, hollow joke.
