Right. Most Gazans are not “innocent.” They enthusiastically support leaders who lead chants of “death to Israel” in rallies. Not a nice crowd. They also cheered the invasions of Israel as the only way to finally make their side heard over alleged Israeli genocidal policies.

I'm sorry to say it was the EU, the UN and the Bush II administration. IIRC the Israeli government warned that it would lead to a win by Hamas and virtual halt to any discussion about a two state solution.

Strangely enough, local elections have been held this weekend in Gaza and the PA controlled area of Judea and Samaria for the first time since 2006. A great success according to the AP:
