ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Democrats have rejected an effort to redraw the state’s congressional map to boost their party’s chances in the midterm elections, a setback for Gov. Wes Moore who put his clout behind the attempt to blunt President Donald Trump’s own redistricting campaign.
The clock officially ran out on the proposal late Monday night as the state legislative session ended, a casualty of internal party disagreements. In the end, the Maryland Senate left the bill in a committee, with Democrats who control the chamber concerned it could backfire under judicial review.
The unusual mid-decade redistricting, which started when Trump encouraged Republican-controlled Texas to redraw their map last year, is expected to continue next week. Republicans want to change congressional boundaries during a special legislative session in Florida, while Democrats are asking voters to approve a redistricting referendum in Virginia.

I live here in the People’s Republic of Maryland and trust me Wes Moore is in deep trouble with the voters on all sides and the legislature is in complete disarray. People are p***ed because the rising energy cost, crime, and the fact that all the wealthy Marylanders that they were going to get there fair share out of them, yet all of them moved to Pennsylvania and now the same people, who voted for this are now left holding the bag.

Wes Moore is a liberal DA. He is absolutely worthless as a governor when it comes to actually aiding the populace. If I saw him run over by a runaway otter, it would not bother me in the least.

He has just 1 opponent in the upcoming Democrat primary and there will be no others; the filing deadline has passed. Moore will win that primary easily though of course there will be some “protest” votes. So “easily” may mean 65% instead of 85%.
Numerous (9) Republicans are running. None of them have a chance in November. The nominee will, at best, fare only slightly better than sacrificial lamb Dan Cox (who is running again) did in 2022.
If the GOP candidate gets even 40%, it’s a miracle.
Obviously there have been occasions where the puppetmasters will allow a sufficiently liberal (Ehrlich) or ultra-liberal (Hogan) Republican to become an impotent figurehead Governor while the veto-proof Democrat legislature wields all real power.
It’s handy for Democrats to have someone to blame when THEIR legislative policies — which the Governor has zero control over — prove to be unpopular or even disastrous. Other one-party Rat states like Vermont, Nevada and Massachusetts follow the same pattern at times.
Tl;dr version: Moore will be safely re-elected in November.
