STOWE, Vt. — Looking back, gubernatorial candidate Dean Roy says his political ambitions started in the eighth grade. And by that he means, last year.

After working as a legislative page at the Vermont State House, the 14-year-old freshman at Stowe High School now has his sights set on the corner office.

In November, he’ll be the first candidate for governor under age 18 to appear on the state’s general election ballot.

The last time I was in Stowe, I didn’t see any “teens” or “youths.” There aren’t very many in the whole state.

They want them young. The younger the better.

They would allow voting at the age of eight, if they thought they could find a way to make it happen. They are so much more malleable the younger they go.

I’m not sure. But most governors work when the state congress is in session which for some is every two years. Of course they work if there is a state emergency.
