Hungarians go to the polls on Sunday in a vote that could bring down long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and have significant repercussions for the rest of Europe, the US and Russia.
Most polls favour Péter Magyar, who formed a grassroots party after splitting from the ruling Fidesz party, but the night before the vote Orbán was in defiant mood.
"We are going to achieve such a victory that will surprise everyone, perhaps even ourselves," he told several thousand supporters in a small square on Budapest's Castle Hill.
Voting takes place from 06:00-19:00 (04:00-17:00 GMT) and results will start to come through during the evening.
Orbán turned tensions up a notch ahead of the vote, claiming the opposition would "stop at nothing to seize power", and Magyar responded by appealing to voters not to give in to "Fidesz pressure and blackmail".
After 16 years of Orbán running Hungary with what the European Parliament termed a "hybrid regime of electoral autocracy", Magyar and his Tisza party are promising "a change of regime", a reset of relations with the European Union and an end to close relations with Russia.
He attracted far greater numbers to his final rally in the second city Debrecen than Orbán in Budapest.

And to make things worse, his opponent Péter Magyar is pro-EU. The Hungarian border wall is very effective in keeping Muslim invaders out. So there are no terror attacks in Hungary like we see in Germany, etc.
The EU wants that wall opened. If Magyar wins, will he oblige?
Poland did the same, but without helping Russia, like Orban.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg News said it had obtained a Hungarian government transcript of a call that took place between Orbán and Putin on 17 October, in which Orbán reportedly compared the relationship to that of a “mouse” standing ready to help the Russian “lion” as needed.
“Yesterday our friendship rose to such a high level that I can help in any way,” Orbán reportedly told Putin in the call. “In any matter where I can be of assistance, I am at your service.”

A slight correction, please.
Honky is a slang term for a white person.
Hunky is a slang term for a Hungarian.
Most people see the above terms as offensive. But I’ll tell you what. I am of Hungarian descent, and in my old neighborhood “Hunky” was common, and accepted. (But never used when talking to your elders.)
The word was connected with working in a steel mill. Not a bad thing.
There was even a local newsletter called “The Mill Hunk Herald”!

Yet, he supports the EU to the hilt.
Orban is pro-EU also. He has said many times he supports the EU 100% and would never remove Hungary from the EU, no matter what they did.
Well the European Union wants him out and he holds the line against immigration, hopefully the Hungarians will retain him.
Orban said he supports them.
