As is so often the case, the greatest threat to any institution comes from within. Currently, a Groyper movement—that is, a movement built on mindless isolationism, hardcore antisemitism, coy pro-Naziism and Islamism, huge pockets of misogyny, and a barely hidden dislike for America—is trying to co-opt MAGA and the Republican Party. Its leaders are podcast hosts Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones, all of whom once claimed to be straight-talking conservatives. Now, they just engage in crazy talk.
Trump tried to ignore them, but he seems to have realized that the GOP risks going down the same path as the Democrat party. The Democrats could have rejected its fringe, a crazed Marxist, anti-American, heterophobic, anti-Christian, antisemitic, racially obsessed group. Instead, it embraced it. Crazed radicals are now at the heart of the party. Although dressed in more subdued clothes and toning down the worst rhetoric, people like Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Gavin Newsom are now top presidential contenders for the Democrat party—and each of them espouses what were once fringe ideas.
Trump, however, is determined not to go down that path. As long as he’s in charge, the Groyper fringe is going to remain on the fringe. He will defend his MAGA movement, one based on core American values, to his last breath.
To that end, yesterday afternoon, Trump put out a truly epic Truth, one long paragraph excoriating the Groyper leaders. Although he reserves special insults for each of them, the overarching message about all of them is that they are—and this is one of Trump’s worst insults—“low IQ” people, who are so “stupid” that everyone can see it. They’re dumb hustlers who will say anything for the clicks....
