Republicans can fund ICE for an entire decade without a single Dem vote: Sen Cruz

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is calling for Republicans to provide Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with enough funding to last a decade.

He believes Republicans can do that without the support of a single Democrat.

"We can do it with just 50 votes," Cruz said.

Lawmakers in the Senate agreed early on Friday to advance funding for DHS that includes the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Coast Guard, the Secret Service and seven other agencies — even as gridlock over ICE remains firmly in place.

I was trying to convince myself that Thune is not a Schumer ally, but the 3AM voice vote deal was too much. True, Johnson got a House bill passed killing Thune's deal, but just barely.

Thune was Mitch’s hand picked replacement. On his best day he is a weak cowardly rino.

enemies of America are enemies of America, and frankly I’d prefer to have to fight open enemies like Schumer and Pelousy and AOC and the Somali lady in Minnesota....... instead of having to fight embedded wolves in sheeps’ clothing like GOP-e’s like MooCow-ski etc.

tough as it is in both situations... we must win if USA is to have any liberty and any future

Thune is human garbage. The entire country is held hostage not by the Dems but by some POS commie in South Dakota who was installed by Senate Republicans.

If nothing else, a reconciliation vote roll call will smoke out the stealth RINOs of which there appear to be way too many.

OK, that's Lee, Tuperville, and Cruz.

Now two more.

Or is it all just talk and posturing?

Whom do you like for majority leader (considering senate support and compatibility with DJT)?

There's the problem right there.

"Senate Republicans".

Which leads to the question: Why would Thune want a voice vote?

DO IT AND PROTECT OUR BORDER FROM THE KNUCKLEDRAGGING INVADERS FROM BELOW. America is not the Disneyland for failed socialist Democrat illegal “voters” looking for a “better life with a free ride.” This isn’t the United States of Uber. I like watching those Contraband at the Airport shows. That booschidt about all the countries south of the border being poor is an invader myth. They all drive new SUVs and Super Luxury Pickups. There is no difference from America and Mexico. We’ve got Walmarts they’ve got walnuts to shop at theirs. We’ve got fast food joints and restaurants. They’ve got the same. The majority of Americans are obese and the majority of those below the border are obese. Knock off the Drag Queen fairy tales about what it’s like below the border. Instead of kissing their butts and welcoming them into America as suggested by TrannyZero, Texas’ “Rising RAT Star”, give everyone who shows up at the border an AR-15 and a few boxes off ammo and tell them to start taking care of their cartel boyz themselves.

The voice vote occurred at 2:20 AM in a near-empty chamber with only a handful of senators physically present, a procedural move that bypassed a recorded roll call.

No roll call
No individual accountability
No permanent voting record

Even Cornyn says he supports killing the filibuster. If Cruz is wrong about reconciliation, we would have to choose between open borders and the filibuster. Dems are not going to deport their millions of illegal voters willingly.

"No official record", is my understanding. It just passed but no one has to necessarily/officially admit to it...

Although there does seem to be record of who was present at that hour... thoon, Barasso, Hirono... I forget who else I saw...

Anyway, all but about five of them get to plead the Sergeant Schultz defense.

Problem is, all the Republicans like him, except Lee is the only one who's shown any actual moral courage in the situation. The rest are just preening in opposition for the media.

And, there are five who actually think it's cool to be seen on camera with him: Cotton, Barasso, Lankford, Britt, Capito.

They down with it.

Capito is busy trying to be the GOP version of Byrd. Unfortunate many here in WV are fine with that!

The problem is that Republicans have a history of elevating the Whip to Majority leader. It goes back over 100 years, a pattern that the Democrats have not emulated.

YearMajority LeaderWhip
1919Henry Cabot LodgeCharles Curtis
1924Charles CurtisWesley Jones
1944Wallace H. WhiteKenneth Wherry
1949Kenneth WherryLeverett Saltonstall
1953William KnowlandEverett Dirksen

The Democrats are tactical with their leadership appointments; the Republicans are "it's my turn" with their leadership appointments.
