Russian blogger Ilya Remeslo who criticized Putin has been put in psychiatric facility

A pro-Kremlin figure who unexpectedly denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine in a social media post this week that went viral has been placed in a psychiatric facility, the hospital said on Thursday.

Ilya Remeslo made a career denouncing Putin’s critics until he became one himself, posting a manifesto late on Tuesday to his 90,000 followers on Telegram entitled: “Five reasons why I stopped supporting Vladimir Putin.”

He said Putin had prosecuted a “failing war” in Ukraine that had killed millions and torpedoed Russia’s economy to the detriment of its citizens’ well-being.

Vladimir Putin is not a legitimate president. Vladimir Putin must resign and be brought to trial as a war criminal and a thief,” Remeslo wrote in his post.

On Thursday, St Petersburg’s Fontanka newspaper reported Remeslo had been hospitalized in the city’s Psychiatric Hospital No. 3.

Putin is rapidly reverting to totalitarian Soviet-era practices. Make no mistake about who he is or what he will do to stay in power.

Putin was a KGB consultant to the Stasi, the brutal East German secret police when East Germany was occupied by the Red Army.

He has said that he wants to expand Russia’s borders to what they were when the USSR occupied eastern Europe during the Cold War.

And his talking heads on Russian state TV have said that after Russia conquers Ukraine that Eastern Europe is next.

And the Putinistas on FR who have cheered for his brutal invasion of Ukraine will no doubt support his bloody conquest of Eastern Europe.

Yes.
Stalin did not bother.
He executed millions and send millions to gulag.

After Stalin, Soviet Union mellowed and mass executions became think of the past.
But the jails were still full.

The they discovered the insane asylums.

Kind of great idea.
Those enemies, they are all insane and need treatment!
Shut then down there.
Great way of taking care of inconvenient dissidents.
“We care about those poor, sick people, we give then our free medical treatment!”
Who can be against it?!

This is Putin’s style of Stalin’s USSR. This guy will be injected with terrible drugs that are mind bending. But I hope not. Putin cannot die and go to hell soon enough.

But Putin still has his fans here.

If alive, this poor wretch was slapped into a medieval mental institution and injected with enough drugs to make him a zombie for truth telling, if for only a brief time, about the war in Ukraine when he had a lucid interval.

For a shining moment he got it right.

But what about those like Colonel McGregor, Professor John J. Mearsheimer and the president himself, all of whom got it wrong?

The notion that Putin is a thug doesn't mean Ukraine must defeat Russia with our long range missiles. While Putin is not very likable, Russia is not our enemy. Clinton bears responsibility for squandering the potential of post-Soviet Russia mostly through his fecklessness and Albright avenging her ancient grievances. Part of the blame goes to the Russian oligarchy and lingering disfunction. But mostly it was NATO expansion and scope creep into offense, meddling in the Balkans, war against Serbia, and meddling in Ukraine are what created the situation in Ukraine.

Can say pretty much draw a line between bombing Belgrade in support of terrorists in Kosovo to Russia doing the same in Ukraine.

Would you mind posting a link to Putin saying the above.

Just kidding, we all know you invented it!!!

While Putin is not very likable, Russia is not our enemy.

LOL, "Putin is not very likable"? Putin is a totalitarian ruler who started the largest European war since WW2 over Russian imperial ambitions.

As to "not our enemy", Russia has self defined the United States as one of its primary geopolitical adversaries.

Official Adversary Designation: Kremlin officials, including press secretary Dmitri Peskov, have explicitly referred to the United States as an "enemy" of Russia, signaling a shift in rhetoric that portrays the US as actively trying to destroy Russia.

Geopolitical Alignment: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has stated that Russia sees the U.S. as an adversary that is doing everything to "undermine Russia's position on the international stage".

Just because many of us cant stand Zelensky doesnt mean me love Putin. The war should be decided by the people of Russia and Ukraine. But it cant. Russia is a communist country and decides for the people. Ukraine is a communist country and decides for the people. Before you start arguing that Ukraine is not, When is their next election?

Zelensky has prolonged it by making outrageous demands including US troops on the ground. Knowing this would never happen. Putin doesnt want this war to end because he is a madman. Zelensky doesnt want this war to end because it is his cash cow.

“Russian blogger Ilya Remeslo who criticized Putin has been put in psychiatric facility”

To be fair, a Russian has to be crazy to criticize Putin.

Zelensky agreed to Trump's plan of a total ceasefire, which Putin rejected.

Zelensky Election Timeline: If a ceasefire is secured, Zelensky stated that Ukraine could move to hold elections within 60 to 90 days.

As to foreign troops in Ukraine, Ukraine signed many treaties with Russia including one with Putin, where Russia agreed to respect Ukraine's borders, so signing another treaty without any real enforcement is pointless.
