Donald Trump criticises Nato and other US allies, saying he has been told they "don't want to get involved" in the Iran war
In a post on Truth Social, he says: "We no longer 'need,' or desire, the Nato countries' assistance — WE NEVER DID!"
The US president's comments come after a growing list of nations, including many European powers, turned down his request to help protect the Strait of Hormuz - our diplomatic correspondent analyses the situation

Abrogate the NATO Treaty.

When they use more words than Trump used to quote him you know it’s not worth reading.
Iran is holding them hostage by threatening Hormuz. If Europe stays back, Iran has to allow vessels through or risk losing “support”.
Is there a rule on FR that one has to do that? I must have missed that rule in my 28 years here.

I think the exercise was against our NATO “allies”. The have been found wanting.

The United States has been informed by most of our NATO “Allies” that they don’t want to get involved with our Military Operation against the Terrorist Regime of Iran, in the Middle East, this, despite the fact that almost every Country strongly agreed with what we are doing, and that Iran cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be allowed to have a Nuclear Weapon. I am not surprised by their action, however, because I always considered NATO, where we spend Hundreds of Billions of Dollars per year protecting these same Countries, to be a one way street — We will protect them, but they will do nothing for us, in particular, in a time of need. I would agree. It should be a mostly unrestricted forum. I have a problem with the article, because the four letters of NATO are not capitalized. For me, that does in the author’s credibility.

The British write Nato treating it like a proper noun, while Americans write NATO in all caps as an acronym—style difference only.
