On Monday, Cuba experienced a total shutdown of its National Electric System, as reported by the Union Eléctrica (UNE). The organization confirmed the collapse and announced that protocols for restoring power were being activated.
"A complete disconnection of the National Electric System has occurred. Protocols for restoration are being implemented. We will continue to provide updates," the UNE stated in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy and Mines indicated that an investigation into the causes of the blackout is underway, though no further details were provided.
The nationwide blackout followed a day already plagued by severe service disruptions. According to UNE's update for March 16, there were interruptions due to capacity deficits throughout the previous 24 hours, which persisted into the early morning hours.
The peak disruption reported the previous evening was 1,891 megawatts at 7:20 p.m., a figure that exceeded planned levels due to higher-than-expected demand, according to the company.

Just power it with seafood and cigars.
They just didn’t implement socialism correctly….
This isn't just the story of Communism (although Communism makes it much worse). This is the story of Western Green Energy culture. Ignore investment in traditional energy infrastructure and instead pour money into questionable green energy projects with very low ability to generate power. The end result? The traditional infrastructure fails and the new green infrastructure has absolutely no ability to make up the slack.
Somehow they’ll blame America & Trump. Sigh.
Maybe if they had the right people in charge...../s
And rum!
Like every good Commie, Fidel Castro implemented rationing as soon as he took power. Food, power, everything. Today, many regular Cubans will not be so radically affected by the further lack of power.
The only item that was not rationed was the ability to leave Cuba. For decades, anyone attempting to leave Cuba were shot. In a boat, raft, inner tube, or just swimming. They all received a full ration of lead.
Not so shocking news.
Do they have Daylight Savings Time? That extra hour of sun sure comes in handy.
Why isn’t their renewable energy kicking and saving them
Unless they have battery storage solar only works in daylight hours.
That 732Mw of power is wired to the Castro regime’s homes and offices.
Everyone else can suck it!
Just get rid of the communist government and watch the lights glow across the island.
They just didn’t implement socialism correctly….
But it will be different this time around....
Praying this is the final countdown. 67 years of communism is more than enough. I know lots of Cubans. Some are bad but most by far are solid people. Don’t be surprised to see a lot of Cubans here move back to be part of reconstruction.
