Well it was a large operation, but was it effective? This is the last area to play the symbolism over substance games.

It is a mistake to let him retire. He is one of the few fighters.

It did the best he could do under the circumstances
That sort of operation is jam packed with activities that must be staffed. equipped, managed and constantly evaluated
Seems that his skills would still be needed. but maybe he’s had enough of what can be a thankless job

He deserves to be able to enjoy his retirement after 30 years. I hope he has a long, happy and healthy retirement. The longer the better. I worked in uniform in NY State’s Dept. of Corrections. Quite a few of the people I worked with over 25 years, never lived long enough to retire, and many of them were younger than me. I retired in 2003, and never thought I’d live as long as I have. I took a reduced pension so that if I died within 15 years, my sons would split what was left in my pension fund. Well, I screwed them out of that. I’ll be 79 in August, and have outlived everyone else in my family. I’m one of the lucky ones who lived to retire. Enjoy retirement as long as you can.

"It is a mistake to let him retire. He is one of the few fighters."

I doubt his family would want him dying while he was still working for the Federal Government. Time for someone else to step up and fill his shoes. He's entitled to enjoy whatever retirement he earned over 30 years of service.

“Well it was a large operation, but was it effective?”

That’s a good question. When you’re using 80% of your manpower for crowd control while the other 20% apprehend one person that doesn’t sound very effective.
