Excruciating Eric Swalwell clip ages badly as California residency cast into doubt, Dems panic
NY Post ^ | 03/12/2026 | Pierce Sharpe and Josh Koehn

A newly resurfaced video clip shows the irony of Rep. Eric Swalwell’s sticky predicament, as the Democratic frontrunner in the California governor’s race is facing a lawsuit and calls to be disqualified from June’s election as questions have been raised on whether he truly lives in the state.

The 2012 video shows Swalwell — an Alameda County prosecutor at the time — criticizing the record of 20-term incumbent Pete Stark for always being in Washington D.C. and rarely spending time in his district.

“I live in the district,” Swalwell says in the resurfaced clip, which features a stand-in for Stark during a mock interview. “I will make sure that I commute to Washington and always stay connected with my district.”

Swalwell adds, “That means driving the roads of my district, shopping the businesses of my district, and the basic requirement, sleeping under a roof in the district.”

But reporting by The Post shows Swalwell appears to have rarely stayed at the home he allegedly rents while racking up thousands of dollars on luxury hotels in and around his district.

Five neighbors failed to identify Swalwell on Wednesday when The Post showed them a picture of the congressman and identified him by name, despite his claims to have lived in a Livermore house for the nearly nine years.

The Post also found old tweets Swalwell sent out during his 2012 campaign criticizing Stark for the very things he’s now being accused of doing.

“There are 2,850 reasons to replace #CA15 40-year Rep. Pete Stark. 1 for every mile he lives outside the district at his home in MD. #ItsTime“

You can’t get in-state residency tuition at either UC or CSU with Swalwell’s profile. Or even a community college here: you have to sign an affidavit that you plan to live for at least 6 weeks in the state just to take an online course and pay resident tuition.

He’s only a resident of the Swamp.

Eric Swawell, like Gavin Newsom has no shame.

He should have resigned to a life of obscurity after the Fang-Fang scandal.

Instead, he’s running for governor of California.

And, unfortunately, there is a good chance he may win.

Dems do not panic... they are too stupid to panic. The only time I’ve seen them really panic is when Trump was elected, (both times).

Some other couple owns the house, and Swalwell “claims” to live in it, while he really doesn’t. His family lives elsewhere out of state, so why would he live alone in that house? Neighbors never saw him! What a crook!

“I live in the District ... of Columbia.”

It is kinda funny because DC folk refer to “the district” the way New Yorkers refer to “the island” (meaning Long Island, not Manhattan or Staten.)

There is a California work-around for Smalwell.

He should just say he doesn’t obey the law but not obeying the law is not illegal in California.

His voters will buy it and they will be amazed.

He should have had a phony video made up of a special effects green screen which would then show old scenes of the city behind him. Like Police Squad the effects guys could accidentally place the Eiffel Tower or Roman Coliseum behind him at times.

They are not panicking. They are trying to clear the field for the execrable Katie Porter to make the runoff.

He’s the frontrunner so if he’s taken out does the 2nd democrat make into the top 2 of the primary? Might be best for him to take the hit and stay in. There’s still a chance for the GOP to finish 1-2.

Why is this issue still unresolved? Surely you can find out where a candidate is legally residing within 8 months of an election.

Brings to mind Jao Bai-din pretending he was in the White House, and the media selling it to the public.

Exactly. I forgot that ruse.

I wonder if the highly educated average populace in Iran (as the two women on the panel on Fox have said) is too smart to fall for what the average American decided was an example of Biden being on top of his game.

Of course he will win. That’s why dems brought millions of illegals, they are the are the new foundation of the dem party along with muslims. Unless Americans get smart, muslims and illegals will destroy The Country, neither will assimilate.

Pet peeve.

Granddaughter attended San Diego State for two years before they very reluctantly granted her in-state tuition. This despite the fact that she was living in the state and sending tax checks to the Franchise Tax Board for all four years of her attendance. When she showed proof of residence, they told her she had to be registered to vote in California, when she registered to vote the demanded she have a California Drivers License.

Born in St. Louis, MO, she’s an American citizen, but went to high school in Costa Rica. At the same time in-state tuition was offered to illegals.

They think the schools are the personal property of the Rat party to reward the “marginalized communities” for their oppression by Da Man and anyone who is White, or worse, Protestant, is the spawn of the Debbil and they will discriminate like crazy to keep you out of “their” system.
