The Trump administration temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian oil “stranded at sea” Thursday in an effort to contain skyrocketing energy prices due to Iranian threats against tanker ships.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the move as one of President Trump’s “decisive steps to promote stability in global energy markets” and keep oil prices low amid the “threat and instability posed by the terrorist Iranian regime.”

One other thing that no one is talking about is Iran’s Kharg Island. Iran ships out 90% of its oil from Kharg Island. These revenues are what funds their repressive forces on the ground. Kharg Island will not be bombed by the US. My expectations are that once Iran’s airborne capabilities have been severely degraded, the US will send in troops to control the island, and take over the shipments of oil that are there now. They will then sell that oil and put the revenues in escrow for a new Iranian government to use for their rebuilding and their people. Much what they have done with the Venezuela oil revenues after removing Maduro.

I have real doubts about that one. Getting control of that Island would be game over for Mullahs but sending in US Troops is an escalation that would crater support and the whole thing could go sideways pretty quickly
If US troops are on it, the island might capsize...
The desperate Mullahs would probably torch Kharg Island and cause an inferno on their way out.

That island has been talked about for decades as the solution to Iranian funding.
All such scenarios fail, and always have after just the briefest analysis. The reason that it is there is the shoreline of the Persian Gulf along Iran is very shallow. The depth off shore of that Island is deeper and the oil is moved there by pipeline, which can be shut off at the mainland and that would be the end of the plan to steal Iranian oil to fund whatever.
Much smaller tankers go back and forth on the Caspian Sea between all of the countries with shorelines moving oil, and intermixing that oil with those other countries’ oil to conceal origin. This has been going on for decades and is major reason why sanctions fail.
To remove the Shiite leadership from power you pretty much have to convert the entire populace to some other religion. That isn’t going to happen.
Kharg Island is one of the two most interesting names of islands to me as a writer.
Zug Island is the other.
Possible screenplays could center around The Battle of Kharg Island and a series of The Kharg Island Creature Versus King Kong. Escape From Kharg Island Maximum Security Prison.
