Ian Huntley has died, less than a week after being attacked in a prison workshop by a fellow inmate. The Ministry of Justice confirmed he died at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary this morning. The Soham killer was attacked on Thursday (February 26), at the high security prison in County Durham, HMP Frankland.
Following the incident, which reportedly left the Soham killer "lying in a pool of blood", he was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary. In an update last night (March 6), it was confirmed that doctors have turned off his life support following consultations with his mother Lynda Richards. She had travelled 175 miles from her home in Lincolnshire to be with him in hospital. She reportedly wanted her son to be put to death because of his horrific crimes. She previously said: "I believe Ian should not live after what he’s done," according to The Sun. Huntley was convicted in 2003 of killing 10-year-olds Holly and Jessica after they left a family barbecue to buy sweets (candy) in Soham. He denied their murder. Huntley had survived previous attacks in the same prison, including an incident in 2010 which saw another inmate slit his throat.
