JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — Battery company SK Battery America Inc. laid off nearly 1,000 workers at a manufacturing plant northeast of Atlanta on Friday amid automakers’ changing electrification plans and uncertain consumer demand for EVs.
The company said Friday marked the last working day for 958 plant employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, notice filed by human resources chief Chuck Moore. Impacted workers will be paid through May 6.
SK opened the $2.6 billion battery plant in Commerce, Georgia, in January 2022. It notably supplied the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. Ford announced plans to cancel the fully electric version of the truck in December.

As more and more advances are made in battery technology the industry will probably make a big comeback. But, for everyday use it is just not yet convenient enough for the masses. And, people love convenience.
I think it will become viable when the power source isn’t a storage device.
I’m really pleased with my 5.7L HEMI V8.
The EV boom , LOL that’s a good one
As the electric auto market shakes out it looks like hybrids will be the lasting addition to the fleet. Battery EVs will remain a niche product pending major breakthrough in storage technology. Expiration of massive tax credits exposed their economic unsttractiveness.
the real “tell” for the future of EVs is the percentage of first time buyers replacing their used-up EV with a new one ... i think it’ll be a couple more years before we get good data on that ...
My cousin lives not far from that plant. He drove me past it when it was under construction, and it is YUGE!

Yeah, I should have put that word in quotes. LOL!
Not enough eggs in too many baskets.

Wasn’t that location known at one time for Muslim enclaves - training grounds?

I believe there was a place near Commerce but I don’t believe it is still there. Carrolton is the town where I hear of the latest Muslim takeover.
I STILL LOVE MY 1976 ICE VEHICLE-—1 TON 4 SPEED 454 CHEVY WITH OVER 348,000 MILES ON IT.

South Korea company. Heartbreaking.
Gov. Prickster took a victory waddle over a battery plant that Stellantis cancelled and wil never build.

Bought a thrashed ‘06 Hemi Durango and put in a re-manufactured Hemi engine. One sweet ride!
That’s the way the EV crumbles. 😐
