Only One Republican Backs Failed Attempt To Restrict Trump’s Iran Military Action (Rand Paul)
Daily Caller ^ | Andi Shae Napier

Posted on 03/05/2026 3:27:06 AM PST by RoosterRedux

The Senate voted down legislation Wednesday aimed at blocking President Donald Trump from taking military action against Iran without congressional approval.

Lawmakers in the upper chamber voted 52 to 48, giving Trump the greenlight to continue his strikes on Iran without worrying about Congress. Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, a cosponsor of the legislation, was the only Republican to vote with nearly every Democrat aiming to curb the president’s authority to use military force without first consulting Congress.

“They’ve [Iran has] been saying they’re one week away from a nuclear weapon, I think, since 1996,” Paul told reporters Wednesday. “The other thing is, ‘Oh no, we’re really been at war for 40 years, and now we’re just ending the war.’ I mean, most of the arguments don’t seem to hold water.”

Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman also broke with his party and sided with Republicans, even going as far as to commend Trump for taking out the oppressive regime.

“So for me, why can’t we just say, ‘look, this is a good thing the way we are,'” Fetterman said Wednesday. “And now, what’s the end game? Well, the end game is for more real peace, rather than just putting out tweets and statements saying we can never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb. When someone does something about that to make that happen, you know, I think we should just [be] country over party.”

The war is not popular Rooster. You’ll see this in the midterms

If you insist but we’ll see. If this thing drags on it will be detrimental and wars/actions have a way of spiralling out of anyone’s control

My statement at this point in time is equally as valid as yours. No one knows where this will go because it is war, that is the nature of it, and it takes time.

My point is to counter those who would work to subvert the nascent efforts to finally end the Iran atrocities. It is much better to give this some time to see how it develops than to get out front with statements like yours. Thus, I write the counter.

But we do know from history and comparable actions

It’s not difficult to reflect on the last 50 years

Not popular with whom?

Not popular with the radical Left who hate America, not popular with Never-Trumpers, and not popular with those who hate doing the right thing.

Trump is doing what presidents should have done since Carter. Only Trump has the courage to take this necessary action.

Generic assertion and implies all such actions failed. There are many differences in this from past actions and not all such actions have been unsuccessful.

It has long been held much of our struggles in this area has been being held back, that is at least one significant difference, using such generic assertions amounts to expedient propaganda, as I said, subversive.

We’ve not had anyone like this president in the last 50 years.
Then is not now.

If this thing drags on?

The Islamic Regime is at war with the U.S. and the free world, so that thing would drag on regardless–unless someone finally had the courage to stop them.

It was the cowardice of men like Rand Paul who are responsible for the horrors inflicted on Iranians and the rest of the world by the Twelvers of Iran.

Thank God someone has finally taken action.

This is the very epitome of a just war.

I have to say there are some things I don’t like about Fetterman. But, I think right now I would trade him straight across for Paul. I think J.F. has better international vision. JMHO, but I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks this either.

I’m glad you’re engaging in a spirted debate and not name calling

But for sure, these things can get out of control just look at recent past. They said Iraq would be a cakewalk that cost trillions and took 20 years.

This one is costing a billion a day I just read? And there maybe deeper involvement.

I’m not sure what even the mission is now the ayatollah is dead
?

How does ending a 47 year war not make sense?

Iran is no threat to the US

You can wipe them out in an afternoon...

And just did. Their leader is dead

What now?

The US and Israel have complete air superiority

Apathy, because the party in power’s voters think, “we’re good, my guy is in there” regardless of who’s in power is the usually force of midterms.
Trump may overcome because he’s so decisive, and righting the democratic disaster of the last 4 years.
Wake up people—VOTE

Their leader is dead

That's not the way it works.

Ayatollahs are like sharks teeth. There are layers and layers of them standing ready to step into place when the supreme leader is removed. The Islamic Republic must be dismantled. Toppling their leader is nothing but a golden opportunity for a younger fanatic.
