President Trump told The Post Monday that he’s not ruling out sending US ground troops into Iran “if they were necessary” — adding that Operation Epic Fury was “way ahead of schedule” by taking out dozens of Tehran’s top officials.
“I don’t have the yips with respect to boots on the ground — like every president says, ‘There will be no boots on the ground.’ I don’t say it,” Trump said after launching strikes Saturday to decapitate Iran’s military and political leadership. “I say ‘probably don’t need them,’ [or] ‘if they were necessary.'”
Trump told the Daily Mail on Sunday that he estimated the war would last “four weeks or so,” but hinted to The Post Monday that that timeframe could be shortened.
“It’s going to go pretty quickly,” he said. “We’re right on schedule, way ahead of schedule in terms of leadership — 49 killed — and that was, you know, going to take, we figured, at least four weeks, and we did it in one day.”
Trump also said he wasn’t concerned about Iran using terrorism to repay America for the weekend’s attack.
“We’ll take it out. Whatever. It’s like everything else, we’ll take it out,” Trump said.
The president said he made the final decision to strike “after the final talks” Thursday in Geneva — in part because of intelligence that Iran was surreptitiously resuming work on nuclear projects.
“We had very serious negotiations, and they were there, and then they pulled back,” he said.

midterms approach....any boots on the ground for more than a week would cost him, imho
Welcome to reality. Air attacks will not dislodge the tens of thousands that are the regime. They and their goons contol Iran and will not surrender without a very bloody fight because they know what will happen to them. It will take American boots on the ground, hard fighting and casualties to effectuate regime change and seize the enriched uranium. Its easy to start a war, not so easy to conclude it. BTW whatever happened to the massive popular uprising of the Iranian people?
I would not read too much into that statement; this is more about keeping options open and showing resolve than it is about showing intent.
Of course! However, you don't rule anything out in the midst of combat. No boots on the ground tells the mullahs to just wait him out. No, they need to be completely destabilized and destroyed. That happens when they think all options are on the table and their own people are able rise up against them.
Trump is wise to answer the question this way... even if it's the last possible option imaginable.
Classic Trump talk directed at Iran. He never excludes an alternative.
They have literally been told to wait as it is not time yet, as we prepare the field for them.
Your selective focus on what is in the news is telling.
A wise person would at least wait until the moment has passed before propagandizing the Iranian people’s resolve, they have just seen 10’s of thousands of their families die, maybe have a little respect?
President Trump is always negotiating. This statement is his opening position. It’s up to the Iranian government (what’s left of it) to respond. Unlike Democrats, President Trump will not do this half-assed. We can expect full capitulation one way or another.
Displacing the IRGC will almost certainly require some firepower....either rifles, or air attacks that demonstrate their futility convincing them to put down their guns.
Do the Israelis’s have enough boots..... they may be more incentivized to challenge the IRGC, which will be in a weakened state in a few weeks.
Trump would never be stupid enough to send occupation forces
I could see special forces being sent in lightening strikes to key installations like nuke sites, to get into them and confirm they are completely destroyed, same with ballistic missile research/manufacturing sites.
He has to say that or the threat doesn’t exist.
Let’s hope this is just a bluff on Trump’s part.
A few special forces guys might be okay. But anything more, that puts you into mission creep territory.
Face reality. Trump promised in 2024 that he would not start any more wars in the Mideast or send brave young Americans far from their homes to die and get maimed in culturally alien lands. This war will badly hurt the American nation. It is already unpopular with Americans, The result will be that the America hating crazy Democrats will win the 2026 midterms and probably the Presidency in 2028. Iran is not worth American lives or what will happen to America.
Only one if you kill a progressive or liberal.
Sooner or later, there will have to be boots as the sortie continues just like in Iraq, and for the same reason. Taking their capacity partially away with air strikes can only go so far since Obama gave them the money years ago to rebuild almost a fast as the US can hit them. His efforts have extended any military actions in that region for years.

Unless we raise Curtis LeMay from the dead it will likely require some ground force
I will leave it to the plan trusters to tell us how great this all is
Trump never rules out anything, he said that is dumb and gives the enemy an advantage to say what he might not do.
Just hand the gavels to Hakeem Skyhook and Schmuck Schumer right now.
These midterms are going to be a Watergate-level wipeout.
“Free Iran” is going to give us Communist America as a result.
Thanks Bibi. Good luck getting President Newsom to do your bidding like you did with this one.
