Douglas Macgregor Says West Misjudged Russia and Failed in Ukraine Strategy

Former Pentagon adviser Douglas Macgregor argues the West misread Russia’s strength and that large-scale arms supplies failed to shift the Ukraine conflict.

The West is still unwilling to abandon its course of prolonging the conflict in Ukraine, clinging to the belief that sustained pressure will eventually weaken Russia. That assessment was voiced by former Pentagon adviser Douglas Macgregor in an interview with the Swiss publication Die Weltwoche.

According to Macgregor, political circles in several European countries remain convinced that Russia is fragile and nearing collapse. He argued that such assumptions bear little resemblance to reality and reflect a profound misreading of the situation.

Macgregor expressed disbelief at what he described as the prevailing mindset in capitals such as Paris, London, and Berlin, suggesting that many of the ideas circulating there are detached from facts on the ground.

He also stated years ago that Ukraine was going to completely collapse within a few weeks and that none of the arms being shipped to Ukraine would be able to reach the front lines.

He’s not a reliable source, but his opinion reported here isn’t that outrageous.

What’s outrageous is that he describes Ukraine’s refusal to surrender as “prolonging the war.” Can you possibly say “Russian agent” any more clearly?

Personally, I never thought Russia would still be fighting four years out because I couldn’t imagine this would be Russia’s existential final stand. It’s not that Russia has proven so much more successful than imagined, but that Russia has been willing to give absolutely everything for a blisteringly stupid ambition in the first place.

At this point, MAD is literally the last thing preventing anyone who wanted to from rolling tanks straight through Moscow. Instead, Ukraine is playing a 100% defensive war which ALWAYS relies on the aggressor simply wearing itself down. If you were to level Moscow as the West is plainly capable of (but no, because of MAD and many other reasons I won’t endorse), then maybe Russia might get tired of this adventure.

... clinging to the belief that sustained pressure will eventually weaken Russia.

Well, the conflict has certainly bogged down Russia, so I'd say it's been successful at weakening Russia. Similar to the USA getting bogged down in Vietnam and Afghanistan, etc. The only good thing is that new military weapons are getting created and tested. Not so good for the casualties on both sides.

“Douglas McGregor Says” - very little that has any semblance of reality.

It is Russia that is prolonging the war. Putin could stop the war anytime he wants. Zelensky has said that he would accept a ceasefire along the present lines. It is Putin who has refused to do so. McGregor is just upset that Ukraine refuses to surrender.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4135011/posts Col. MacGregor: Ukraine has been DESTROYED and there’s nothing left

This is from 3/1/2023 - just shy of 3 full years ago.

And the thread is not just telling of Macgregor’s credibility, but also the shills who mock people throughout the thread for doubting it is true. And they still claim today they are credible, as are these sources they posted and continue to post.

Not our war, but anything that wears
the Russian government down at very
little cost of American lives is
well worth it.

Ukraine has recently been making big gains in the war. They are blowing up Russian refineries, chemical plants, and drone manufacturing facilities - deep inside Russian territory. They are also pushing back the front line and killing huge numbers of Russian soldiers.

So kibitzers can say what they want, but the proof is in the actual outcome.

You make an interesting point, but I think I want to wait until Scott Ritter is finished chasing a jr high cheerleader online to provide his confirmation before I make up my mind about who is providing good information.

....yes, do I REALLY need the sarcasm tag?

Well, since McGregor has been saying Russia would have things mopped up in a couple of weeks since the war began, I’d say he is quite experienced in misjudging things.

If I’d said the things he has, I’d be too embarrassed to show my face. But I guess being wrong pays as well as being right. Maybe better.

MacGregor seems to be very supportive of both Russia and Iran which kinds of puts a crimp in his credability.

A direct MacGregor quote , “oh heavens no, Iran has no intention to develop nuclear weapons”

Right ....

Being generous, MacGregor is a cranky old man relieving his glory days. Being not so generous, he sold out a long time ago and never looked back.

I am not generous at all with him. MacGregor sold out harder than Scott Ritter.

Ritter tries to keep his shilling within some believability. MacGregor will say anything no matter how insanely fraudulent, and usually with malice.
