U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is going viral after saying on a podcast that he “used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats,” while discussing his decades-long recovery from addiction.
Kennedy made the comments Thursday during an appearance on comedian Theo Von’s eponymous show, This Past Weekend w/Theo Von. Reflecting on more than 40 years of sobriety, Kennedy described the daily commitment he says has kept him in recovery.
“We’ve been in recovery together for years,” Kennedy said, noting that he and Von first met at early-morning recovery meetings before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kennedy said he made a personal vow to attend a meeting every day, regardless of his professional responsibilities.
“I said this when we came in and I said ‘I don’t care what happens, I’m going to a meeting every day,’” the HHS secretary said. “I’m not scared of a germ, I used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats. I know this disease will kill me. If I don’t treat it, which for me means going to meetings every day, it’s just bad for my life,” he added.
The post has been shared by a host of prominent social media accounts, some accumulating thousands of reposts and comments. The clip on @factpostnews was viewed more than 2 million times over the course of three hours on Thursday afternoon.
Kennedy has publicly detailed a long history of substance addiction that began in his youth and extended into adulthood, including a period of heroin use he says lasted about 14 years. He has acknowledged a 1983 felony conviction for heroin possession in Rapid City, South Dakota, after which he entered a treatment program and attended regular rehabilitation sessions as part of his probation conditions, a period he describes as the end

Yup- he was also a known heroin addict but he has changed his life- good for him...

IIRC, Kennedy is a recovering heroin addict. I have a close friend of over 20 years who is also a recovering heroin addict - recovery is a process, not an end-state, and if my friend is any indication, sniffing cocaine off toilet seats is nowhere near rock bottom for Kennedy. Doesn’t make a single thing he says or does now invalid, but the man speaks from some grim experience.
Look, we all know Democrats will excuse anything by one of their own when they were younger/using drugs. And RFK Jr. IS one of their own. But the reality is, they don't see it that way anymore. They are going to use it against what he is doing.
Dr Neil Stone, in any other circumstance, would say addiction is a disease. But that didn't stop hm.
And the AIDS.
It was done openly on the bar at the peak of it all, at least in the upscale beach bar I used to frequent.
It's part of the recovery process.
Plus, put it out in public and you can't be blackmailed for it in the future>

Wow, that’s old school. Modern Democrats snort their coke off the asses of underage Chinese prostitutes, or at least that’s how Hunter Biden does it.
It’s no secret that, post-1968, the RFK-Ethel brood was a wild, rowdy, out-of-control, hard-partying bunch. The family was plagued by a dangerous combination of trauma, grief, affluence and substance abuse. RFK Jr. survived. A couple of his siblings didn’t.
I like recovering addicts, typically they don’t hide anything and will speak freely of their past ill-gotten behavior. In my mind, it carries more value than those who portray publicly purist lifestyles.

He goes to meetings, daily. It’s a disease.
He says he knows this disease would kill him if he didn’t go to regular meetings.

Back in the day I would snort cocaine off an album cover not a toilet seat. To each his own I guess.
