Trump has reversed the Biden-made manufacturing decline
The Washington Times ^ | 2/11/2026 | Peter Navarro

Posted on 02/11/2026 8:14:50 AM PST by sopo

As the Trump economy begins to boom even as inflation moderates, Democrats and the anti-Trump media are desperate for a spin that might discredit Trumponomics.

Their latest Hail Mary: pushing a counterfactual narrative that President Trump’s tariffs are hurting, rather than stimulating, a manufacturing revival for blue-collar America.

The latest manufacturing data obliterates that lie.

In January, the ISM Manufacturing Index jumped 4.7 points to 52.6. That wasn’t just an estimate beat; it was a blowout, and an important one.

The ISM Manufacturing Index is the most widely followed survey of factory activity worldwide. When it moves above 50, the manufacturing economy is expanding.

When it jumps nearly 5 points in a single month to decisively push past 50, something fundamental has changed.

That “something” is Trumponomics finally overpowering the wreckage left behind by Bidenomics. The 52.6 reading marks the first decisive return to expansion since August 2022, ending a manufacturing downturn that dominated the latter half of the Biden presidency.

Curiously, although the ISM manufacturing index is generally regarded as a leading indicator, it has been late to the Trump manufacturing party this time. Indeed, throughout 2025, numerous other hard data had already been flashing green.

Dementia Biden’s installers were sold out to China, Biden wasn’t even President of changing his diaper.

Recall also plastic Gavin cleaning up his trashed out city for a whole week just to entertain his master CCP Xi.

UK Starmer and CA Carney both just appeared in Beijing to give WEF aid and comfort to CCP Xi as hes been under some strain lately. Likely because of his schemes in Venezuela and the USA have fallen on hard times.

I believe they fully intended to install that demented vile reprobate Tim Walz into the White House to speed up the USA’s downfall and collapse it into the manufactured schemes of the CCP.

You have the right understanding of what was done.

But everyone should understand that this was what “Adam Smith” was proposing in the first place: a way to keep the impoverished proles happy while being looted for their labor.

The manufacturing decline was a "Biden-made manufacturing decline" only in that he supported the trade deals that were supported by members of both parties, and many here at Free Republic.

I hope we all learned our lesson, and those who weren't doing so before will start looking for the "Made in USA" label.

IIRC Adam Smith didnt discuss international trade. David Ricardo did, his doctrine of Comparative Advantage.

They were writing 1776-1820 and their ideas reflect that.

Paul Craig Roberts thinks that what we are seeing today is Global Labor Arbitrage, not comparative advantage. And it is a danger not just to low wage American workers, but to America’s ability to defend itself.

There’s a reason that America’s once vast industrial power was called The Arsenal of Democracy.

We let it vanish to our own peril. The Invisible Hand doesnt care if your nation survives.

Rebuilding Economy takes quite lot of time!
E. g. post communists countries in Europe are still, after 35 years, lagging the Western European countries.
Despite an economy, which is freer than the West, they are still catching up.

Radical rebuild are also having voter problem.
There are many interests who benefit from the former rotten system and serious restructuring efforts usually bring some pain first!
So the old system demagogues can convince voters to stop it and return to the old, good, rottenness.

A long lucrative path. Rebuilding the manufacturing base pay the n three ways : construction, employment and secondary service jobs to support the factory workers.

At least four then: we will be able to buy products made well rather than garbage made to intentionally fleece people of their money over and over again for the same item.

“what we are seeing today is Global Labor Arbitrage, not comparative advantage”

This is exactly right, and it is dumb to snipe at Ricardo, Smith, comparative advantage, or the Invisible Hand. Smith was pro-labor, pro high-wage, and pro-manufacturing. Labor arbitrage and capital flight is a disaster for any country. Smith and Ricardo were not idiots, they knew that. They wanted to trade cloth for European wine, not outsource the British defense industry to Germany.

It is slowly picking up for me. I do see lots of manufacturing jobs but the pay is still crap. Some of my clients are picking up so that’s good. but nothing yet to make up for the Bidenflation that happened and the new rent increases. Materials (Aluminum, steel, cobalt, etc.) has been steady and not increased so that’s a relief. Gas was down under $3 a gallon but just jumped back up to $4, probably thanks to California shuttering refineries. We’ll see. Hopefully I can rebuild some savings and get back on the retirement path. i got wiped out with kung flu lock downs.
