More migrants have crossed the Channel on small boats under Sir Keir Starmer than any other prime minister. Some 65,922 migrants have reached the UK across the Channel since Labour won the election 19 months ago at an average rate of 790 a week.
Three boats carrying 219 migrants crossed the Channel in small boats on Sunday with more dinghies attempting to reach the UK on Monday.
Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said the numbers were a result of Sir Keir scrapping the Rwanda scheme. He added: “This is a catastrophic failure by weak Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and his failing Home Secretary.
Their gimmicks have not worked. They never should have cancelled the Rwanda deterrent with no alternative. “The number of illegal migrants crossing the Channel has surged by 42 per cent since the election. Labour has no plan to fix it. We need to pull out of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), enabling us to deport all illegal migrants within a week of their arrival.”
The arrivals pushed the total number since Sir Keir took power on July 4 2024 past the record held by Boris Johnson, who saw 65,811 migrants cross the Channel while he was prime minister.
It is a blow for Sir Keir who came to power with a pledge to “smash the gangs.” Labour has set up a new border security command with counter-terror style powers to combat people smugglers. He has also forged agreements with countries to counter illegal migration and introduced a “one in, one out” returns scheme with France.

Why aren’t submarines patrolling the Channel ready to sink these boats with torpedo’s? The British fought harder to keep the Nazi’s at bay.
The Royal Navy is a shell of its former self. But they do have eight modern coastal patrol ships. These ships could intercept invading boats, and turn them back. With force, if necessary.
But only if the prime minister orders them to.
Which he won’t.
Keir Starmer is ruining the UK.
It was ruined even before Keir took over, he’s just overseeing the end.
