Democrat Taylor Rehmet wins a reliably Republican Texas state Senate seat, stunning GOP

Democrat Taylor Rehmet won a special election for the Texas state Senate on Saturday, flipping a reliably Republican district that President Donald Trump won by 17 points in 2024.

Rehmet, a labor union leader and veteran, easily defeated Republican Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist, in the Fort Worth-area district. With almost all votes counted, Rehmet had a comfortable lead of more than 14 percentage points.

Horrible news. A lot of Freepers like to downplay the recent Democrats off-year election victories, but this is a serious trend that portends disaster in November.

This was the reddest area of a red county, going to a Democrat by over 14 points in a reliably Republican district. Not good at all.

Remember after Virginia and New Jersey went Dem? “Blue states... what do you expect?” Republicans are in trouble. The messaging stinks. The mid terms are looking very very bad. The House is likely a lost cause. The Senate? God help us if that goes.

Trump is good at winning elections, but if he’s not on the ballot Republicans have historically gotten hammered. And he’s not been much help (Herschel Walker or Dr. Oz anyone?).

The GOP in that area must have seen Republican Wambsganss was in trouble. Did they even try to help her campaign, or did they simply sit back and watch her die on the electoral vine? If so, why?

Some potentially good elected leaders don’t always make the best campaigners. They may need some support.

Wambsganss had financial support, and spent $736,000 compared to Rehmet’s $70,000. Trump posted 3 times on Truth social urging ppl to get out and vote. GOP knew she was in trouble, and was trying to help.

Do they have the turnout? Article says 834k votes cast on 2020 w/Biden getting 1800 more than half.

Knowing the turnout might help differentiating between weak repub turnout and dem fraud.

I don’t believe repubs in general are turned off by Trump, in spite of repub reps.

Most folks only pay attention to the general elections in November of the even-numbered years. Folks need to stay politically aware because special elections and primaries can happen almost anytime.

I think the only hope the GOOBers have is for Trump to assign each family in this country an illegal alien family with their extended family members and make sure they are given the “better gringo life” they want to be given.
