Tiffany Burress, the wife of former New York Giants and Jets star Plaxico Burress, has officially launched her campaign for Congress as a Republican in New Jersey’s 9th District.
Burress announced her candidacy in a press release Monday, touting her credentials as “an attorney, businesswoman, and community leader.“ The political newcomer also cast the Democratic incumbent, U.S. Rep. Nellie Pou, as a “disconnected” Washington insider.

“I built my career outside of politics, in the private sector. That real-world experience is exactly what this district needs in Washington,” Burress said. “But for fifty years, Nellie Pou has made a career out of politics and party insiders.”
Though this is Burress’s first political campaign, she has already received backing from some of the state’s most powerful Republicans.
In a joint statement to the New Jersey Globe, Passaic GOP Chair Peter Murphy, Bergen GOP Chair Jack DeLorenzo and Hudson GOP Chair Jose Arango said that “Tiffany Burress is the candidate who can win this district.”

This district, half of which lies in supposedly right-trending Passaic County (the other half is mainly a portion of Bergen County) has been teasing the GOP in congressional elections since redistricting took place prior to the 2022 midterms.
A hopelessly underfunded Republican, Billy Prempeh (who is not running again in 2026, at least not so far), came somewhat close twice and only lost by 5% in 2024 despite almost no funding whatsoever.
OTOH, GOP Governor candidate Jack Ciatarelli got slaughtered in this area just 2 months ago. Charlie Cook’s simplistic rating system says that NJ-9 is only D+2 which is extremely marginal. However anyone who looks at a greater amount of pertinent data says it is at least D+8 — which is not very marginal at all.
