Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Sunday that the Justice Department subpoenaed the central bank Friday with the threat of a criminal indictment, the latest move in a yearlong pressure campaign from the Trump administration.
Powell said the threatened indictment related to his testimony before the Senate in June about the renovation of Federal Reserve office buildings.
"No one — certainly not the chair of the Federal Reserve — is above the law," Powell said. "But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration's threats and ongoing pressure."

The fact remains that inflation has exceeded their goal for 55 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS NOW! That’s a really impressive record there! I won’t even mention the fact that inflation is likely understated also.
They are a bunch of totally worthless high paid PhDs.
Powell’s not even an economist. He’s a lawyer. He is a political hack.
The fact that Powell publicized it and termed it a “disagreement” after lying to Congress and wasting a few billion o four money, shows he’s politically motivated and unfit for the position - he needs to go.
I pray they pull the scum Powell out of bed by his ankles, drag him across his lawn, and toss him into the paddy wagon when the time comes to take him down.
The FR has treated America with disdain and outright theft since 1913.
This is a stupid waste of prosecutorial resources. No executive, whether private or public, has ever been prosecuted for a cost overrun.
If you want to dismantle the Fed, go for it. But if you think Jerome Powell will ever see the inside of a courtroom, you’re nuts.
