Media: Ukrainians, Georgians make up majority of US-seized Marinera crew

he oil tanker Marinera, seized by the United States, had been chartered by a private trader under the flag of Guyana.

It changed its flag to Russian while in the Atlantic, already being escorted by a U.S. Coast Guard vessel, Caliber.Az reports, citing REN TV.

The U.S. Coast Guard began pursuing the tanker off the coast of Venezuela after failing to obtain confirmation from Guyanese authorities that the ship was sailing under their flag.

U.S. officials demanded that the captain proceed to a U.S. port, but he refused and steered the vessel into the Atlantic. En route, the tanker requested temporary registration under the Russian flag from the port of Sochi and received it legally.

Most of Marinera’s crew are Ukrainian — 20 people — along with six Georgians and two Russians.

On January 7, the United States seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker in the North Atlantic following a dramatic weekslong chase on the high seas. Simultaneously, the U.S. also announced the seizure of another sanctioned tanker, the M/T Sophia, which it said was “conducting illicit activities in the Caribbean Sea.”

The Kremlin, a strong supporter of deposed President Nicolás Maduro, accused the U.S. of violating maritime law by seizing the Marinera.

If there is a scam or a scheme, you can bet Ukrainians are into it up to their necks.

A ship changing Flags Must have a inspection and produce a bill of sale among other documents, this was not a legal transfer

“A ship changing Flags Must have a inspection and produce a bill of sale among other documents, this was not a legal transfer”

Yes. That is why we were able to seize it.

An example of more Russian scheming.

The Ukrainians probably came from Odessa, and the Georgians from Savannah.

The Russian mafia is made up of more than just Russian nationals. They have members from all the former republics, plus some association with the likes of the Haqqanis.

Just like the cartels, smugglers annd organized criminals are a motley bunch of nationalities, and they hire from the bottom of the barrel.

Just like Democratic Socialists of America and their ilk- their loyalty is to the Revolution, to the Internationale, not to the us Constitution.

criminals may have loyalty to family but it usually doesn’t go any higher.

Just like before the Iraq War, criminal Ukrainians and criminal Russians were working together smuggling weapons to Saddam Hussein.

What is important is what were they carrying where, or what did they drop off and to whom, and who benefits by the particular activities they were engaged in.

Money, means, motive, and intent will tell the story.

Well send the Ukrainians on a plane to Kiev and send the Georgians to Atlanta, or Savanna.

That’ll fix ‘em.

“I read the owner of the ship is a Ukrainian also.”

Why are you using the Marxist ploy of putting out misinformation?

So, the author is lying? He just made up the fact that the overwhelming majority were Ukrainian?

You just can't get over the fact that you believe initial claims that were completely untrue.

JD Vance said on Fox News that tanker wasn't Russian.

You're as retarded as Tim Walz.

Even the Google AI confirms the composition of the crew was overwhelmingly Ukrainian:

The crew of the seized oil tanker Marinera (formerly Bella 1) included 17 Ukrainian citizens among a total of 28 crew members, according to several news reports and the Ukrainian embassy in the US.

Crew Composition

The full crew of the tanker, which was seized by US forces in the North Atlantic on January 7, 2026, for allegedly violating sanctions on Venezuelan oil, reportedly consisted of the following nationalities:

Ukrainian citizens: 17
Georgian citizens: 6 (including the captain)
Indian citizens: 3
Russian citizens: 2

“So, the author is lying? “

No. You are lying.

All in the Marxist tradition of flooding the channels with misinformation just like the they are doing with the recent DHS shootings.

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday expressed what it called “serious concern” over the detention of the oil tanker Bella-1, also known as Marinera, by US forces in the Atlantic Ocean, describing the operation as an “illegal use of force” against a civilian vessel.

In a statement, the ministry said the tanker had received temporary authorization on Dec. 24 to sail under the Russian flag and was conducting what it described as “peaceful passage” through international waters of the North Atlantic en route to a Russian port.

Moscow claimed that US authorities had been repeatedly informed of the tanker’s Russian affiliation and its “civilian, non-military status.”
