The UK's Ministry of Defence confirmed that it had provided "enabling support" to the US during its operation to seize the tanker. US forces have boarded a Venezuela-linked sanctioned oil tanker in North Atlantic after pursuing it for weeks, the US military announced on Wednesday.

"The vessel was seized in the North Atlantic pursuant to a warrant issued by a US federal court after being tracked by USCGC Munro," US European Command said in a post on X.

Russia sent a submarine to escort the empty oil tanker the US military had been pursuing and attempting to seize for weeks, US media reported.

The United States has been chasing the oil tanker, formerly known as the Bella 1, since it evaded a partial US blockade around Venezuela and thwarted an attempt by the US Coast Guard to board it late last month.
