President Donald Trump announced that the “interim authorities” in charge of Venezuela would be giving between 30 and 50 million “Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil” to the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained that the oil would “be sold at its Market Price,” and that Trump would ensure the money from the sales would be “used to benefit the people of Venezuela” and the U.S.
“I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America,” Trump said. “This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!”

the art of the deal....in action
Yes, good for the Venezuelans and us.
Bad for Xi, Putin, Iran, Cuba and the rest of our enemies.
This is about four tankers full. Chevron already has a contract to do that many per month of oil that it then takes to the US. Yes, the interim authorities are going to adhere to that contract and that oil will go to the US and return for payment to Venezuela.
Unless the plan is for Chevron to pay for that oil to Venezuela, and then have the US government confiscated from them. But beyond that I have heard nothing about Venezuela agreeing to be looted 50 million barrels.
Voice to text. That’s about 40 tankers full. About a year of Chevron contract
Maybe he’ll use it to buy Greenland.
People forgot what American Jacksonian Foriegn policy looked like , because it hasn’t,t been seen since Reagan.
Not much High quality in venezuela. what is the API gravity? It’s mostly heavy sulphur.
The US pumps mostly light sweet crude oil, and exports most of it offshore.
Our refineries are built for Heavy Crude which is what we used to pump many years ago.
6 of the 10 largest Heavy Crude refineries are on the Gulf Coast, Texas, Louisiana, etc.
We import the Heavy Crude oil to make our gasoline and other stuff.
Why? Its cheaper than re-configuring the refineries to refine the light sweet crude.
What does Venezuela have? Heavy Crude Oil.
Who gives a shit about API gravity.
There is built in profit from buying heavy, sour crude and selling the refined products for the same price as refined products from the higher priced light, sweet crude. If your company also owns fields with light, sweet crude and sells it on the open market, you really have money making potential.
All while getting a better crack spread. More distillates or higher cuts. And more sulfur to sell.
It’s pretty good. Especially when you can sell yourself the diluent.
Id like to see how he bypasses sending any of the money to the commies that run the country.
Thank you for this info.
Why is the US government getting into the oil business? I guess the kiddy care places have dried up and the pols need to get corrupt cash from some other source. will we set up another food for oil program like Iraq? I can see the dems salivating at a new funding source for their voting scams.
Trump needs to fill up the oil reserves that Biden depleted (and sold to China). FIRST
You and me both.
Pay attention! This is not “getting into the oil business.” 🙄 It is getting back what we (American companies) are owed for the nationalized/stolen properties of American oil companies. It was determined in international court.
The SPR is set up for medium weight crude oil, not the heavy stuff.
That’s mostly true, but, while we’ve not been building many refineries in the last couple decades, we HAVE expanded some of them, and some of those expansions added capacity for lighter grades. Our SPR is itself set up for medium grade oil.
Brave search gave me a quite nice rundown on heavy vs. light crude:
SFAIK, there’s no inherent reason a large refinery would be at a major disadvantage running multiple distillation towers for multiple grades of crude. The overhead & cost of equipment might be higher, but I’m guessing that cost gets well spread out.
