The ongoing anti-regime protests in Iran escalated sharply on January 6, 2026, after the city of Abdanan in Ilam province reportedly fell under the control of protesters and rebellious youths. Large crowds took over the streets as security forces struggled to maintain control, marking what activists describe as the first Iranian city effectively seized during the ongoing uprising.
According to reports, Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) units attempted to confront demonstrators in Abdanan but were met with resistance from protesters. During the clashes, the Ofogh Kourosh chain store, described as being owned by the IRGC, was set on fire.
Security personnel and police officers were later seen retreating and taking refuge on the roof of the local police station as crowds gathered below. Authorities reportedly cut electricity to the city, apparently in an effort to prevent the unrest from spreading further.
State-linked media, meanwhile, described the events differently, reporting that rioters stormed a store in Abdanan, tore open bags of rice, and scattered them across the premises. Despite conflicting narratives, multiple accounts confirm that security forces lost control of key areas of the city, which lies near the Iraqi border.

Will we wake up tomorrow with a new Iran?
Did they seize any weapons?
When the oh so religious rulers get scared, watch for rows of big cargo planes with pallets of gold bars and cash to be on the runways with guards watching carrying automatic weapons.
May the good guys survive.
Typical Fox News doesn’t give a sh*t. Their big story is the midterms horse race. Woo hoo!
Small town-23k people. Mostly Kurds. A good people to turn up the heat.
The MSN claims this is the first city to “fall?”
They totally ignore similar activity in other large cities, such as Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz and Kermanshah.
They are fighting for ashes. The economy has collapsed. There is almost no fresh water left. The infrastructure has been shattered. Many will die, but not all from bullets.
There are rumors that the mullahs are about to flee to Moscow - out of the frying pan, into the fire!
They have seized weapons and ammunition in various places around the country, wherever they have taken police stations, Basji sites, etc., but are mostly untrained.
Putin: Don’t forget to bring your gold, jewelry and cash when you arrive. Just a tip.
I know people who have been praying for that for the longest time..God willing there will be freedom in Iran very soon
Notice they ALL flee to Russia gee why is that
I'm not defending MSN. I'm defending logic.
I have seen a few reports where police in areas have joined the civilians so there would be the beginning of the general public re arming themselves I hope.
Hopefully, slowly at first, then all at once. That place is creaking and hopefully presently it will collapse. Unfortunate it appears that the mullahs have adequately prepared to avoid their well-deserved Ceaucescu moment.
Tousi tv on utoob covers this happening in depth / a decent broadcast that focuses on the Middle East.
