MEXICO CITY (AP) — A strong earthquake rattled southern and central Mexico on Friday, interrupting President Claudia Sheinbaum’s first press briefing of the new year as seismic alarms sounded.
The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 and its epicenter was near the town of San Marcos in the southern state of Guerrero near the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco, according to Mexico’s national seismological agency.
Sheinbaum resumed her press briefing a short time later and said that she had spoken with Guerrero’s Gov. Evelyn Salgado, who told her there was no serious damage reported so far.
Residents and tourists in Mexico City and Acapulco rushed into the streets when the shaking began.

Acapulco was one of most romantic cities in Mexico. That along with Guadalajara were my go to destinations. Then the druggies came out of the mud and destroyed the charm. Lot of history in those cities
We were in Acapulco right before a cartel CUT off many heads and ROLLED THEM DOWN THE STREET WHERE WE USED TO WALK!
Who’s to say it aint one of them earthquake bombs taking out another cartel operation.
One can only hope.
