Iconic Amsterdam church destroyed after devastating fire rips through spire during New Year's celebrations

An iconic church in Amsterdam has been partially destroyed after a fire ripped through its spire in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The Vondelkerk, which sits just next to the Dutch capital's famous Vondelpark, collapsed in on itself as 2026 celebrations unfolded.

The blaze is thought to have started just after midnight, and was soon declared a major fire and a regional emergency.

By 2.30am local time, the inferno was still raging - with authorities warning locals about the heavy smoke.

The blaze went on to cut off the electricity of almost 100 nearby homes.

Dramatic images from across Amsterdam showed flames and smoke pouring out of the 154-year-old place of worship into the night sky.

An emergency services spokesman said the burning embers containing "old wood" were blowing towards the city centre.

Officials went on to warn the church "cannot be saved" and said the entire structure may soon collapse.

The Vondelkerk was built in 1872 and served as a Roman Catholic church until 1977.

And what has it served as since?

Amsterdam has been associated with Godlessness for quite a while.

Recently viewed a Netflix mini-series entitled Amsterdam Vice which although fiction gave one a good look at the culture of the city.

I half way enjoyed the series, it was kind of like the American Fargo series in that it was a black comedy of sorts.

Can't say we have an Amsterdam in America although that is no fault of Seattle and Portland who are working like hell to be an Amsterdam.

”Funny how ya don’t see many Mosque burnings Must be those fancy fireproof mosaics?”

They have much more stringent safety standards because of all the ammo they store in them. Safety first. Safety always.

It'll be like Notre Dame in Paris - burned to the ground and no one ever charged, let alone caught.

A mosque will be built in its place in Amsterdam, with the full approval of the traitorous EU and elected officials in the Netherlands:

"As of 2023, 59% of the city's residents have a migration background, defined by the country of birth of the individual and their parents."

It hasn’t been a church for years. It was falling apart and taken over by squatters and sold to developers who turned it into a concert hall and offices. It was still nice looking, though, and too bad it burned.
