Iran has been gripped by demonstrations amid the country's economic crisis, with social discontent fueling open protest against the regime. Media and authorities have pinned the blame on foreign intelligence services.
Thousands of people have protested in Iran in recent days against the dramatic devaluation of the currency, amid an economic crisis that has engulfed the country.
What began as a strike by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants on Sunday has become an outcry of political anger, with some even chanting "Death to the dictator!" The spontaneous protests have already spread from Tehran to other cities, such as Isfahan and Mashhad.

Hopefully the milllahs will keep spending billions on nuclear projects and humus.
Will accelerate the fall of the regime
Iranian population is not only almost 10 times what it was in the 70s, it is not nearly as radical or controllable as it was then
90 million compared to 10 million mouths to feed and more importantly water to drink

Protests never work. Waste of time.
Protests never work. Waste of time.
Protests never work. Waste of time.
That’s what I am always told. Except when protests are successful.
I really hope that its true this time but I’ve become so pessimistic about Iranian uprisings. The theocratic thugs are good at repression and the protestors are not organized at all. Its such a shame. Iranians have such a rich cultural heritage; they are one of the world’s original civilizations. They deserve so much better than the two-bit thugs who are in charge now.
The last thing the leftists and neocons want is an Iran that frees itself of the ayatollah and which becomes more friendly to the West.
i don’t believe a damn word the neoCONs are selling. They’ve done enough damage to our country and to the world. The target now seems to be Iran.
There was some video on Pamela Geller’s website. I hope they’re successful in throwing out the Ayatollahs.
They have to take the next step or have the leaders afraid of an immediate next step to work in authoritarian regimes.
Military and crowd need to turn ugly and violent against the mullahs or it just won’t matter.
The neocons oppose regime change in Iran.
Iran is pretty much the main backer of terrorism in the world and without Iran playing the bad guy, there will be little support for neocon policies.
No Iran, no reason to sell trillions worth of weapons, notably expensive anti missile tech.
I get most of my stuff from TOUSI tv. He was born in Iran, and hates Islam.
There are still millions of Iranians who grew up and thrived in the Iran that was governed by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
Unfortunately, when the Ayatollah shoots down a couple hundred protesters in the street, or disappears a dozen moderate government officials, the Restoration will quickly run out of oxygen.
Lol... another “Iran collapsing” article. I’ve been reading these for 40 years. Not happening. The mullahs will slaughter the entire nation, including every woman and child, then launch whatever weapons they have left against Israel before that happens. And that ain’t gonna happen. Demons will hold on somehow - they always do. Just like the Nazis didn’t die. They just moved to Ukraine and Argentina (and the US).
Most of the videos I’ve seen are of the police and Basij leading off protesters they’ve arrested.
Not very hopeful.
More likely Russia, China, or North Korea
It may be true that 90% of the population hate the ruling Mullahs but as long as the government is organized and they have support from the military and internal police, that's all they need.
If I wanted good information about popular sentiment in Iran, I would certainly go right away to someone who "hates Islam".
On the other hand, it's probably not.
