I’ve seen Raymond Ibrahim give interviews before. He said what passes for Christianity today is nothing like the past. It’s completely watered down now.
The love your enemy part is confused because we don’t have language to parallel Greek. Enemy in the original context meant an annoying coworker or neighbor, a business competitor and such.
Not an invader seeking to destroy. There’s a different Greek word for that.

We can love our enemy even in modern terms while we love them on *that* side of the wall.
Love your enemy doesn’t imply to import them into your living room. - nor your country.
