The eighth, most dangerous front: How Turkey went from ally to strategic threat - opinion
Thw Jerusalem Post ^ | DECEMBER 22, 2025 | GIORA EILAND

Bit by bit, a Turkish front is forming, more dangerous than Israel’s seven arenas since Oct. 7. Erdogan’s ideology and ambition require Israel to refocus on a higher strategic risk.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s political and military leadership has claimed that seven different arenas threaten it. It seems that, bit by bit but consistently, an eighth menacing front is forming, one that in many ways is more dangerous than the others.

This is the Turkish front. Turkey, which until about 23 years ago was one of Israel’s greatest friends, has become a real enemy since Erdogan rose to power.

The main factors that explain Turkey’s defiant and threatening approach toward Israel, Cyprus, and Greece are its religious outlook, its national outlook, and its megalomania. However, Erdogan’s influence on Turkey is not the only factor that defines the Turkish ethos.

But Here We Are!

Pray for President Trump to have the wisdom to end this insanity.

In the 20th century, Turkey finally pulled itself out of the 5th century mentality it had been in. Erdogan‘s quest for personal and islam glory may well destroy all those gains. He’s likely to drag his country down and is willing to take the entire region with him. All for a tyrannical political system that masquerades as a “religion of peace” that would willingly slaughter “non believers” by the tens or hundreds of millions.

Correct.

Thank you for explaining that.

The Kemalists were brutal, but nothing like the Islamists. Erdogan, believes he will be the next (last) Sultan.

The eighth, most dangerous front: How Turkey went from ally to strategic threat

Turkey never was a candidate for the privileged position of Ally Of The United States, as long as they allowed Islamist Terrorists like Erdogan influence and delusions of Caliphate.

They never were an "Ally".

Actually, the one word is birth rates. The religious extremist, Arab-oriented backwaters of Turkey outbred cosmopolitan, European-oriented Istanbul. Istanbul is still a wonderful city. I went to a friend’s wedding there last summer and it was as charming and vibrant as ever. But that is a bubble - an illusion in an authoritarian country where the religious hinterlands keep Erdogan in power.

Turkey and Libya: A map showing Turkey’s military bases in Libya.

The image dates to 2021, and there has reportedly been further expansion since then.

Libya will be part of the attacking coalition against Israel according to Ezekiel 38. Therefore, this map should surprise no one who takes biblical prophecy seriously.

We lived in Turkey 66-68 (Karamersul AB, a former Luftwaffe base in WW2).
First year off base in Yalova, then on base. We would walk around town, buy from the shops and bazaars. The Turkish people were always very nice, courteous folks on the whole. It's a shame the one person can bring a country back to the dark ages with no regard for the citizenry.

I spent a wonderful week in Turkey before Erdogan. Absolutely fabulous vacation. Some womens still wore veils but not all. Traveled around the country, and even in small towns, where every woman was veiled, the women didn’t care that I wasn’t. Great food, great ruins, probably my favorite vacation, and I’ve been to many countries.

No one should visit Turkey now.

In one word - Erdogan.

Wrong word, Islam is the word and the people voted for it even though they are mostly peaceful.

Turkey is also making moves into Central Asia, the five Muslim nations formerly part of the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire that became independent in 1991. The Russians are bogged down in their war with Ukraine and are less capable of maintaining their connections with the “stans”. Not only religion but language ties Turkey with Central Asia. Turkmenistan is to Turkey what Saxony is to England, that is an historic origin point. I can see where Turkey could re-establish itself as a major world power. Whether it takes a role in end times events is not out of the question.
