The suspect tied to both the Brown University mass shooting and the killing of an MIT professor has been found dead inside a storage unit with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
During a Thursday night press conference in Rhode Island, officials confirmed that 48-year-old suspect Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente was found deceased in Salem, New Hampshire.
Authorities revealed they traced Valente to a self-storage facility where robots, canine units, and a SWAT team entered the building and conducted a comprehensive sweep. He was found dead inside, along with a satchel and two firearms.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said a key “person of interest” provided critical information about the suspect that “blew this case right open.”
“That person came forward to two Providence police officers over on the east side,” and said “he had information that could help this case,” Neronha revealed.
That information then “led us to the car, which led us to the name, which led us to the photographs of that individual renting the car, which matched the clothing of our shooter here in Providence, that matched the satchel,” he added.
Despite identifying Valente as the shooter, authorities say the motive behind the attack remains “a mystery.”
“I don’t think we have any idea why now or why? Why Brown? Why these students? Why this classroom? That is really unknown to us and it may become clear,” Neronha said. “I hope that it does, but it hasn’t as of right now.”
Brown University President Christina Hull Paxson revealed that Valente was a former student at the university from Fall 2000 until Spring 2001. He took a leave of absence before formally withdrawing in July 2003.

how many times is this going to be a headline??..geez, enough already.
Agreeeee...just clickbaiters reeling in more clicks.
But why is there almost no info about this guy’s life from 2003 to now? One old address in Miami... that’s it.
Has anyone said where he was living, work, or internet activity?
Also, I wonder if the slain professor confronted him to turn himself in only to get shot to silence him?
MIT prof was about the same age as killer, and both were born in Portugal.
But, their paths took different turns.
Dead is dead. Good deal, saves the cost of a trial and 10+ years on death row where only lawyers benefit. Don’t care how as long as he’s shuffled off his mortal coil.
Your questions show that this story is still alive and incomplete, keep asking them.
I can’t shake the feeling that this is a setup.
On the dole no doubt. Get your citizenship by earning it and being vetted or leave, no middle ground.
Another foreign slob costing the taxpayers a small fortune. Don’t give me the “he was a permanent American BS.” He was a Portuguese from Lisbon. A foreigner. A piece of paper stamped by a government employee and a tiny flag does not make one and American. He wasn’t an American. He was an illegal alien from Portugal. This crap is why America needs to knock of the “dual citizenship” crap they have for retards. You can’t be loyal and have allegiance to more than one country unless you are a DemonRAT.
By who?
Fully Agree!
He had known the MIT professor from way back when they were students together. Will we ever learn what fueled his murderous rage? The two men who could have shed light on the question are dead.
Don't believe it! By now they know everything about this individual going back to his birth. I'd bet the rent they know exactly what his motives were.
A 48 year old student. Reminds me of Animal House. There are a lot of things today that remind me of Animal House.
Did the shooter fail his PhD qualifier at Brown and have to leave the program back pre-2017? I read that he had a master’s degree in physics. In a lot of programs you go in as a student for a PhD, you fail the qualifier your consolation prize is a master’s degree. Going back to Brown and getting revenge would make sense. Think of the example of the Stanford PhD math student who had passed his qualifier but couldn’t get his advisor to approve his dissertation. He snapped and went back and beat his advisor to death with a hammer. Until I see some more evidence I think the econ students\prof were just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I’ve seen it claimed that the MIT prof was an old classmate who made it through the system. He could have been killed out of jealousy.
I didn’t think of it that way, however, you are correct, these Forever Students remind one of Animal House.
It depends on what you mean by illegally. He never reported that he was no longer a student. He was supposed to have left the country at that time. At least that’s the story I’ve read but you really can’t believe the crap in the “media” these days. They’re doing everything they can to scare Americans into voting for the Party of Death, Murder, Destruction and Assassinations and Mutilation of Minors.
I agree, that's why I posted this thread.
Good.
