Trump’s Media Company Inks Deal With Business Seeking Holy Grail of Energy (Fusion)
Liberty Daily ^ | 12-18-25 | Audrey Straub

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) announced a merger Thursday with the nuclear fusion company, TAE Technologies (TAE).

The all-stock transaction is valued at more than $6 billion, according to TMTG. President Donald Trump has previously moved to bolster nuclear energy through executive action — though fusion technology has infamously struggled to deliver commercially viable and grid-scale power, despite decades of research.

Trump is a weird cat. Who knows where this will go. Too bad Elon isn’t in charge. We might actually eventually get a reaction

Theoretical work on fusion power started in the 1920’s, and actual research began in the 1950’s. At every point since research began up until the present day it was claimed that success was 30 years away.

Political conspiracist Lyndon LaRouche was a big advocate for fusion energy.

One of his many front groups was the Fusion Energy Foundation. They published a magazine called Fusion, which they sold at airports.

I got one of those (”EIR”) when I was a youth before I knew what the LaRouchies were about. it had a cover price of $495, but I got it for $5.

I also remember Diet Smith pushing Fusion in Dick Tracing comics in the early ‘80s. “Fusion Now!”

I once saw a folding table on a street in NYC, manned by two guys in white shirts. They were selling Fusion and other magazines.

I talked to them for a while, asking questions, trying to figure out what they believed.

Their ramblings sounded incoherent and all over the place. They talked about the Revolutionary War, Lafayette, the British Queen, fusion energy, various mathematical and economic theories.

I ventured a comment (I forget what), to see if I understood. One of them chuckled and said, "That's pure Hobbes."

I don't know why. I never mentioned Hobbes.

I went away thinking they were too brilliant, or too crazy, or both, for me to understand.

Oh yeah, they were also selling a book which claimed that Thomas Jefferson was a subversive and a Communist.

It’s a risky venture as much bigger (more money and more R&D) players have so far failed to get Fusion to the practical stage yet.

Trump Media stock was down about $25 on the year, is up $4 today. The main drag on it had been the crypto 'investments', so I'm glad they're taking a shot at an actual business concern. General Fusion (Canadian, backed by Bezos) is IMHO the only company on the right track, but TAE's also pursuing an approach that isn't just brute-force. Brute force fusion will work, so long as you've got something the size of a star. ⭐🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬👨‍🔬⚛️
Okay... I've got an item on order from the Bezos Empire, and one of the "Vine" reviews has this line:
The price is comparable to other devices of a similar cost.
Yeah, no kaka, eh?

honestly I don’t think I’ll see it in my lifetime but I’m glad people are trying

Comnpletely irrelevant, but I’m glad to see the Amazon delivery tracker actually has restored the “how many stops away” to the screen. And in homage to the time of the year, the delivery truck is shown as Santa’s sleigh.

There are loads of tax money to be handed out to “research.” I’m not PHD in physics but getting more power out of something than is put in to it ain’t gonna happen.

Getting a reaction isn’t the problem. A nuke ‘gets the reaction’. The problem is containing the reaction... the ‘wall’...

“I’m not PHD in physics but getting more power out of something than is put in to it ain’t gonna happen”

December 2022 already happened. They achieved a Q = 1.54

For commercially viable power.you need ten to one or more. Q=10

https://www.energy.gov/articles/doe-national-laboratory-makes-history-achieving-fusion-ignition

If the USA was not afraid of Pu239 you could today right now build a fusion-fission hybrid reactor with either a energy gain of 100:1 via U238 fast fission by’m 14 MEV fusion neutrons and also neutron capture in U238 to Pu239 or suppress the fast fission and just do neutron capture to Pu239 which in a Q=0.5 not even Q=1 you can breed 8000 kg per year of Pu239 in a 1 gigawatt level plasma.

You don’t need Q=10 or even Q=1 hybrids work with 0.5 or better.

One kg of Pu239 is 83,610 gigajoules (GJ) that’s also 23,255 megawatt hours or basically a gigawatt days worth and a hybrid reactor would make 8000 kilograms or more of this perfect fission fuel per year that’s 22 kilos per day.

No more breakthroughs needed we have the tech today the Chinese sustained a plasma of just under Q=1 for 1066 seconds you dont need continuous fusion for a breeding hybrid you need a neutron source with the timeline of the decay and capture time for thermalized neutrons which is on the order of tens of seconds it depends on how thick your breeding blankets are and if you use a reflector like beryllium or not but tens of seconds is valid for thick U238 blankets. You can just pulse your neutron source and drive a hybrid with it. Keeping Kef<1 better for suppressed fission Led<0.4 you can never go prompt critical so meltdown is not possible nor is any yield of supercritical fission.
