Weโve been here before: congressional Democrats and Republicans sparring over the future of the Affordable Care Act.
But this time thereโs an extra complication. Though itโs the middle of open enrollment, lawmakers are still debating whether to extend the subsidies that have given consumers extra help paying their health insurance premiums in recent years.
The circumstances have led to deep consumer concerns about higher costs and fears of political fallout among some Republican lawmakers.

"Affordable." That's what they're arguing. LOL!!!
Thank you Obama and McCain.
And it’s not just the premiums.
It’s also the deductibles.
You literally can’t afford to use your insurance.
There’s a very good reason utilization rates are down.
Let’s hear it for socialized medicibe.
...medicine...
Premiums aren’t going up. They’ve always been this high.
We need to ensure we effectively message this to voters when their premiums skyrocket next year under a Republican-held White House and Congress.
"Obama's fault! Vote GOP!"
Kill it.
Stop forcing people to buy insurance by pretending it’s a “tax”
Vote MAGA.
Regardless of the letter after the name.
I thought you meant “medicide,” which is apt.
Just heard 4 republicans signed on with the rats to extend this obamanation for 3 years scum!
Sadly, a significant segment (perhaps a majority) of the voting population won’t factor costs into this issue.
All they’ll see is the racist Republicans trying to destroy the legacy of the first BLACK president.
Which doesn’t bode well for the mid-term elections. ๐
Won't pass the senate
If you ever wanna see some hair raising stats, check out how many Americans are killed and injured annually by Big Med.
It’s a heck of an incentive to eat right and exercise.
I know people on Obamacare. The old truism about once you give the public something, you can’t take it away is in play. People think the government gave them something good in the form of Obamacare. Raising the cost, directly, is unacceptable to them, and they will punish the party in power.
In my opinion, which isn’t worth the electrons it takes to post it, is that the pandora’s box of government funded health insurance has been opened. There is no option other than fix it, if re-election is the goal.
If that were the case then Deep State wouldn’t have to steal elections, would it?
Half the country enjoys socialized medicine. All the Boomers are on Medicare and all the underclass are on Medicaid.
The middle class flips the bill for everyone.
And I'm on Tricare so I can't really point any fingers.
What a load of manure and nuclear-grade projection. This is ALL the Democrats’ baby, from start to finish, without a single Republican vote.
“Affordable.” That’s what they’re arguing. LOL!!!
Yet, the way media works and LIV work unless the republicans fix it they’ll be blamed. The democrats will eventually march in and fix it and get all the credit for fixing the mess they created on their own. Memories are short in today’s world.
That is a mostly true statement. The only dickering is who will pay for it. Will it be the recipient or me the taxpayer?
The emperorโs new clothes are about to be displayed.
EC
Geezers are on Medicare have got no choice unless they want to self-insure, and the vast majority can’t afford to do that.
Medicare also disincentivizes later sign ups.
In my neck of the woods it’s harder than heck to find a good doc that will accept Medicare alone.
As for Medicare/Medicaid dual eligibles, they get what they pay for.
I don’t know anyone happy or satisfied with the status quo.
How to you fix a free-for-all giveaway?
It’s not fixable any more than Communism is fixable.
