Ultimately, that may likely be the case. But, in the meantime, delays and even some worthwhile debate over states' rights.
During WW2 most of the SoCal desert was under the control of the Military...it was “Patton’s Playground”!
His playground spilled over into Arizona, too.
This was already federal land, just changing which government agency controls it. This land was set aside in 1907 for exactly this purpose.
This one action will damage Newsom’s chances in 2028. Newsom will complain but can’t force the Navy to release control of this land.
My dad trained at March Field out in the desert east of LA.
Prior to a free round trip to the South Pacific.
He told us stories about driving around the desert in Jeeps. Going to the Brown Derby and dancing with starlets.
He also told me that some guy tried to get him to buy real estate out in the middle of the desert. At a place called Palm Springs.
When folks are saying that the land will be turned over to the Navy, what they are really saying is that the Marine Corps will be taking control.
That should be quite the scary message to the cartels.
