NHK World is going wall to wall on this; tsunamis are already hitting the land, no major damage yet.

33 miles deep?! The deepest point in the Pacific, the Mariana Trench, is less than 2 miles deep. Where did this 33 mile figger come from?

earthquakes point of occurence is not at the bottom of the ocean but deeper into the crust.

It’s in the crust, not in the water.

You’d better inform Wiki their numbers are wrong.

I think that’s considered a relatively shallow earthquake.

Yes. I see where I erred and I’m truly embarassed. Thanks.

We have king tides (no relation to no kings), and flooding from a week long rain and atmospheric river here on the Oregon Coast. Another couple of feet of a tsunami and we can surf in the cow pastures.

“ Nuclear power plant hit hardest?.”
Not if they followed the design and put the diesel tanks for the backup generators INSIDE the protective walls instead of putting them outside where they were washed away. That was the cause of the plant failure. Diesel tanks wash away, no generators to provide backup power. Plant experiences meltdown.

These subduction quakes represent the Hawaiian islands disappearing under Japan. Meanwhile earth is building new Hawaiian islands.

If they didn’t get it right the first time I wouldn’t put much faith in the second plan.
Things like that have to be thought out for anything to go wrong.
