Remember how Democrats shut the government down to squeeze out three more years of Obamacare subsidies for illegal aliens? Well, a fresh report from the Government Accountability Office throws a harsh spotlight on what they were really defending. Investigators set up fake applicants and let the federal marketplace do its thing. The system welcomed them with open arms. Officials approved subsidies for 90% of those phantoms. That’s a hit rate that would make any scam artist proud.
GAO agents went undercover and flagged serious “fraud risks” in the advance premium tax credits. Their findings reveal the true prize Democrats fought to protect: a subsidy machine that sprays tax dollars at people who exist only on paper.
“The federal Marketplace approved coverage for nearly all of GAO’s fictitious applicants in plan years 2024 and 2025, generally consistent with similar GAO testing in plan years 2014 through 2016,” the government watchdog explained.
The New York Post has more:
In plan year 2024, all four of GAO’s fake applicants received coverage with lower monthly premiums – thanks to $2,350 per month in Obamacare subsidies granted to insurers – despite not submitting “documentation to support Social Security numbers (SSN), citizenship, and reported income.”
The GAO upped the number of fake applicants to 20 in plan year 2025 and 18 still “remain actively covered as of September 2025.”
The subsidies that the 18 fake enrollees were approved for totaled “over $10,000 per month.”

Democrats have been outspending reps by huge margins in the last few election cycles. I thought investigating where all that money is coming from would be a priority mission early on in Trump’s second term. The window of opportunity it short...the dems are corrupt as f___.
This is not a bombshell. Any massive federal entitlement program has massive fraud. That will never change. Its like the “shocking” revelations of fraud in the food stamp program, or the Minnesota welfare fraud. When Republicans talk about cutting fraud out of these programs, they are fooling themselves. Like prostitution, fraud will always be with us unless we cut the programs off or cut them back significantly to the truly needy.
The only way to end the cycle of fraud is to abolish a program.
Otherwise ill gotten gains will always be hiding in the weeds.
When the government controls access to everything, then everything is up for grabs by the powerful and politically connected
Its an iron rule of socialism and of human nature
The same will be true here as it is/was in Russia, Ukraine, China, etc...
Exactly
In plan year 2023 alone, one Social Security number was used to receive subsidized insurance coverage “for over 26,000 days (over 71 years of coverage) across over 125 insurance policies.
Compare and contrast government graft and corruption with the elegance and economy of the private sector:
Apple spent an estimated $150 million developing the first iPhone over a 30-month period, though the total research and development (R&D) costs may have been higher. This development was a secretive project codenamed “Purple” and involved a collaboration with Cingular Wireless (now AT&T).
The initial launch of the failed HealthCare.gov website in October 2013 was marred by severe technical problems, with the total development cost ultimately reaching an estimated $1.7 billion to over $2.1 billion, depending on which associated costs are included.
The prosecution rests its case.
Investigators exposed a major weakness inside the Obamacare scheme. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) allows the same Social Security number to run through the enrollment process multiple times. In other words, it was designed for fraud.
Bombshell? Did anyone with two brain cells to rub together think it would be anything else but a massive fraud? If you did I suspect there is no hope for you.
...and so who’s being kicked off the rolls... and who’s going to jail? (hint: nobody)
Probably like every other program with fraud, some had no idea who their coverage was with. Others had probably multiple ID cards or driver’s licenses so just pick a card from the pile.
I would hate to be the people who are knowingly doing this. Nothing will probably happen to them here in this life, but they will pay when they meet Jesus. Meanwhile, I am thankful God gave me my mom and dad. Believers who believed that you work hard and pay your own way. No government handouts. That was hard for me for many years when I earned low wages, but when things happened, I just got another part time job.
Ok MAGA, fix it !
The government officials who’s job it is to ferret out fraud are either incapable or unwilling to do the job. I am sure they are paid handsomely to be the watchdog, but they are feckless. One of the reasons that I am skeptical of almost ANY government spending is that to the government bureaucracies, the concerns of the the taxpayer of such a low priority that they practically hold you in contempt if you happen to voice them.

yaaaaawn...
Big Whip! If there was something done about fraud that would be one thing. But as we all know, all the fraud found by DOGE was nothing but a tremendous waste of man hours. Since no one is held accountable for fraud, it’s goin right back to what it was the second dems are back in the big chair...
Seems dems used fraud liberally to finance all political issues in the party.
It is hard to say there is a case. This government is FUK’d.
All that obamacare fraud, it goes to the insurance companies not to the fake applicants.
The NYP reported wrt Obamacare plan year 2024:
<><>all four GAO’s fake applicants received coverage with lower monthly premiums
<><>and gave $2,350 tax dollars per month in Obamacare subsidies to insurers
<><>despite not submitting “documentation”
<><>no SSNs, no citizenship, and no reported income.
<><>today tax subsidies approved for 18 fake enrollees total “over $10,000 per month.”
The GAO upped the number of fake applicants to 20 in plan year 2025 and 18 still
“remain actively covered as of September 2025.....to the tune of $10,000 per month.
